Forget painters and writers, I want a Clair Obscur game about the weirdest quest of all

The most fascinating expedition in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is often the butt of a joke, but I think it deserves its own game.

Developer Sandfall Interactive recently released the 1.5.3 update for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. The new update is purely aimed at fixing some lingering bugs in the game, including some frustrating issues that players have faced while using it. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33Photo mode. Facial hair will no longer be blurry in close-up Photo mode when Shading is set to Epic, while issues with the Inner Cone Angle and Outer Cone Angle options have also been fixed. The crash that occurred after defeating Sirene has been fixed, as have several potential soft lock scenarios during gameplay. There was also a very specific issue that caused magazines to disappear and be impossible to collect again. Not only has this been fixed, but the missing logs have been retroactively restored for those who suffered from the bug.

Although the 1.5.3 update doesn't bring anything new Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 content, it's still good that Sandfall Interactive is committed to improving the game long term. Given its massive critical response in its current and previous state, it is under no obligation to smooth out the experience any further. In October, Sandfall added a new location as well as new bosses in another Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 update to celebrate reaching the 5 million sales milestone, so it's not holding back on adding more content to the game. Players will have to wait and see if the developer adds even more to the game in the future, but nothing is confirmed at the moment.

With the game turning one year old in April, many fans are wondering what the future holds for the franchise. While the developer hasn't confirmed anything one way or the other, writer Jennifer Svedberg-Yen recently joked that she'd “have to kill you” if she talked about Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 continuation. The huge success of the game means that a sequel may seem like a no-brainer from a financial standpoint, but the developer may also decide to tackle a new project instead. There's excitement and opportunity in either option, and Sandfall Interactive now has the kind of reputation that ensures players will be watching with great interest, regardless of which path it takes in the future.
