After a series of online teasers, Sony and Marvel Studios have finally released the first trailer for the highly anticipated Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie, which is set to hit theaters on July 31st. A few hours later and the fourth Spider-Man movie from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has set a new YouTube record previously held by the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto6.
As first shared by GamesRadar, the first Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer has surpassed a whopping 500 million views in its first 24 hours. This figure surpassed the previous mark of Grand Theft Auto 6, which had 475 million views, according to Global Box Office.
The craziest part? It took Brand New Day a full 12 hours to set the new record, meaning the final 24-hour numbers should be considerably higher.
Records are meant to be broken and all, but it's weird to think that Grand Theft Auto 6 Trailer #2 set the record last May and it hasn't even lasted a year. This just goes to show how popular the Spider-Man franchise is. It probably also helps that the MCU has been a bit subdued lately and fans are looking for some reason to come back.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is shaping up to be the first real Spider-Man movie since 2014
We are finally back in a friendly neighborhood.
If we're being honest, a brand New Day record shouldn't even take that long
When Rockstar Games decided to release a second trailer for GTA 6, the internet collectively and rightfully lost its mind. The first trailer was a bit on the short side and didn't offer much insight into what to expect.
It was massive enough that The Hollywood Reporter put it on par with some of the MCU's most watched trailers. Rockstar called it “the biggest video launch of all time,” which was true enough for the time. That is no longer the case now that the first Brand New Day trailer has dropped.
Whenever GTA 6 Trailer #3 drops now, it should have enough buzz to potentially break Spidey's record. Grand Theft Auto 6 is as big as it gets and fans have been patiently waiting for the next big dump of information.
Even then, it could all be broken by another MCU project, as we still don't have an official full trailer for Avengers: Doomsday. In other words, expect a lot of record-breaking views in the coming months alone.
