Player Pokopia makes a tunnel that Rick rolls passengers

AND Pokemon Pokopia the player has created a surprising way to get Rick Roll friends using the game's creative systems. There really seems to be no limit Popopiacreativity, as fans have so far created everything from a real-world inspired Pokémon Center store to a store Pokemon Gold and Silver's Bell Tower.

For the uninitiated or perhaps the youngest members of the audience, Rickrolling is an internet meme that originated in 2007, peaked in popularity in 2008, and has seen numerous revivals over the years, including during the COVID-19 pandemic. The gist involves baiting and switching someone with a hidden hyperlink that leads to Rick Astley's 1987 song “Never Gonna Give You Up” instead of what is said or supposed to be. It also refers to when someone plays a song in an unexpected way. Overall, the popularity of the meme led to the official YouTube video of “Never Gonna Give You Up” surpassing 1 billion views in 2021 (and has been skyrocketing ever since), and now Popopia the player created a tunnel dedicated to Rickrolling.

Pokemon Pokopia's Rick Roll Railway

Redditor Luneli recently shared his creation on the web Popopia subreddit. At first it looks like a typical railway created by a tunnel in the game with some musical elements. Luneli revealed that they spent hours trying to understand the music system, but eventually “gave up and did this instead”. To give up in this context is to create a solid recovery of a popular meme and song, I guess, because now every passenger gets a little rick roll upon arrival. “I have no regrets,” Luneli said.

User Sad-Cantaloupe2671 wished for it in the comments Popopia contained silent compositions and Luneli expressed similar thoughts. They tried a few ways to quiet the tracks to make Rick Roll a little better, such as using specific Pokemon. Popopiabut that was all that was possible at the time. Luneli was quite appreciative of all the awards given to them by their fans, including but not limited to,

But it doesn't end there for Luneli. In response to GPAnimations, Luneli revealed that they had “escalated” their creation and “another one is on the way”. Bigger, more grandiose and/or longer Rickrolling loops are obviously the safest bet Popopia soon, and that's a cheerful thing to think about in 2026.

Popopia's creativity is unlimited

Give the player a sandbox and they will make a sandcastle. Such creativity was valid for Minecraft players, Animal Crossing players and basically any franchise with a solid sandbox with many creative features.

In hindsight, it was really just a matter of time before a Pokémon Life sim was made and gave fans this freedom in an animal inspired world. Rickrolling may not have been the first thing that came to mind for many, but the fact that it did for Luneli makes the internet a slightly gratifying place. Totally agree, the creation of the Rick Roll Railway was an excellent use of free will and the biggest thing on the internet that many will see, at least for a day or two.
