A new era of competition Pokemon struggle comes with release Pokemon Champions next month and has already been confirmed to be compatible with the Nintendo Switch versions Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen. When Home of Pokemon compatibility is added for Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreenplayers will be able to transfer any mons they have caught during their adventure in the Kanto region to Pokemon Champions. Given the competitive focus Championsthere are six of them FireRed and LeafGreen pets worth keeping to eventually move to Champions.

Part of what makes up Pokemon Champions so exciting is that it marks Mega Evolution's return to traditional competitive battles. Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen they have some great creatures with Mega Evolution potential that failed to shine Pokemon VGC since Gen 7. Although it's not exactly clear what the meta is for Pokemon Champions Now that the new Mega Evolutions will be part of the equation, there are still six historically strong Pokémon that will likely be worth moving from FireRed and LeafGreen on Champions.

Obvious candidates for Pokemon that players will want to switch from FireRed and LeafGreen up to Champions are the ones that have competitively viable Mega Evolutions. Gengar, Kangaskhan and Mewtwo are some of the best Gen 1 Mega evolutions of the past, but the introduction of Mega Dragonite could easily see the creature join that group as well. While not Mega capable, Entei and Porygon2 are two available monos FireRed and LeafGreen who were currently applicants Pokemon VGC meta and have a chance to prosper Champions also.

Dragonite: Bulky pseudo-legendary with new mega evolution

As a Pseudo-Legendary Pokemon, Dragonite already stands above most other mons with a base stat total of 600. However, what makes Dragonite particularly strong is the combination of its two potential abilities and access to powerful physical STAB Dragon moves like Outrage. Dragonite's Inner Focus Ability prevents him from flinching and having his Attack stat reduced by opponents with Intimidate, but Multiscale may be a better ability overall as it halves damage from opponents while Dragonite is at full HP.

When Dragonite Mega-Evolves, it gains a 100-point boost to its base stat total, along with a realignment of its stat range. Dragonite was already a somewhat mixed attack before Mega Evolution, but Mega Dragonite moves its primary attack stat from Attack to Special Attack. This could make Dragonite less viable, depending on Mega Dragonite's ability, but it can also increase Dragonite's overall versatility in Pokemon Championsalso.

Porygon2: The Ultimate Trick Room User

Porygon2 may not look too impressive at first glance, especially as the middle stage of Porygon's development. However, as a not fully evolved Pokemon, Porygon2 can hold an Eviolite item that drastically increases its Defense and Special Defense to make Porygon2 an incredibly bulky team member. Porygon2's low speed makes it ideal for trick room setups that make slower Pokemon move first when active. The combination of defensive bulk, a solid special attack, and the ability to go first in the Trick Room make Porygon 2 an underrated threat that could be valuable in Pokemon Champions.

Porygon2 is somewhat difficult to obtain FireRed and LeafGreenwhich requires players to obtain a Porygon from the Game Corner and then trade with it while holding an Upgrade item once they obtain the National Dex.

Entei: A fast physical attacker with fantastic abilities

Additional Gen 2 mon can be obtained in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen's post-game is Entei, and it's worth grabbing for players who choose Bulbasaur as their starter. Entei is a fast and strong physical attacker with decent size. The best reason to convert Entei to use v Pokemon Champions is for his inner focus ability, which allows him to face intimidating users without having a reduced attack stat. This allows Entei to let loose with a powerful Sacred Fire attack that can handle Steel-type Pokemon with ease while resisting Fairy-types that would threaten a partner like Dragonite.

Despite having a base stat total of 490, Kangaskhan isn't all that impressive on its own. Normal types don't offer much offensively, though Scrappy Ability allows Kangaskhan to hit Ghost-type Pokemon. However, Kangaskhan becomes an absolute terror when he Mega Evolves, gaining access to one of Gen 6's most broken combos.

Mega Kangaskhan's Parental Bond Ability allows the mono to use almost any damaging move twice, with the second hit dealing 25% of the attack's base damage. While this is a retreat from the Ability's Gen 6 glory days, it can still be used with a move like Power-Up Punch, which has the side effect of boosting Mega Kangaskhan's Attack by 1 stage. Double-wielding the move with Parental Bond gives Mega Kangaskhan a double attack boost to make this creature incredibly overpowered.

Gengar: A Special Attacker and Mega Evolution Dual-Threat

Gengar is a solid competitive Pokémon in its own right, with high Special Attack and Speed stats. While Gengar loses Levitate as his ability when transferred from Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen on Pokemon ChampionsCursed Body can still help limit the opponent's options with a 30% chance to disable a physical move that hits them. What Gengar is really worth using Pokemon Champions is his Mega Evolution, which is probably one of the most powerful Megas in the series.

Once Gengar Mega-Evolves, it greatly increases its Special Attack and Speed stats, making them even more impressive than they already were. Gengar also has access to Nasty Plot, which can be used to boost his special attack even more. Combine these factors with Mega Gengar's Shadow Tag Ability, which prevents enemy Pokemon from transitioning, and it can trap opponents in a special attack with moves like Shadow Ball and Sludge Wave.

Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y basically allow players to choose whether they want to have a more physically oriented Mewtwo or a more special focused one. Both options are solid, increasing their associated attack stats by a substantial margin while also maintaining high speed. However, Mega Mewtwo Y is usually the preferred option, as Mewtwo has access to better special moves like Psysrike and Aura Sphere, while also having enough increased speed to be faster than Mega Mewtwo X.
