The best core Pokemon Champions team is already clear

Pokemon Champions is less than 10 days away from its official release, and while it may be a secondary fighting hub for the series for a while, it has all the building blocks to become a VGC staple in the future. Even if it doesn't work out for some reason, Pokemon Champions it's really built to be as battle-focused as possible Pokemon game, to the extent that he has the so-called Omni Ring. This will allow players to use all existing tricks, so while only Mega Evolution will be usable at launch, Terastalization, Dynamax, and Z-Moves should be added over time. For now, though, the options are a little more limited, and it's natural that some team cores work better than others.

For those not familiar with VGC terminology, a team core is a subset of Pokemon that can be used in a team of 6 Pokemon in a competition that work well together for different criteria. This could be speed boosts with Tailwind, slow Pokémon becoming faster in Trick Room, or generally synergistic options that benefit each other. One such example is weather teams, as they usually have very strong, easy-to-build cores that can hold up very well in competition. Pokemon ChampionsThe best Pokemon are yet to be determined, but one weather type is likely to rule.

Pokemon Champions: The Future of Pokemon Video Game Battles Hands-On

GameRant goes hand-in-hand with Pokemon Champions, a battle-focused experience that will form the backbone of competitive Pokemon gaming.

The best team of Pokemon champions will rain on your parade

Since both Pelipper and Politoed have been confirmed to be returning Pokemon Championsand with these being exceptional threats to the VGC due to the setting rain, the rain teams are sure to do well. But that's not all, as there are various reasons why rain teams are most likely to take over the meta when Pokemon Champions triggers:

  • Pokemon Scarlet and Violet's Archaludon is confirmed to be in the game, and is one of the best Pokemon ever made for rain teams. He has Electro Shot to increase his already high special attack by one stage at the cost of doing the move in two rounds, but this is done in the same round if it's raining. He then has Stamina to boost his defense with each hit, which increases the damage that Body Press does. Finally, his Dragon/Steel type means he has a lot of durability and does well against Fairy.
  • Another confirmed creature is Pokemon Legends: ArceusBascule Legion. This water/spirit pokemon is amazing in the rain with Swift Swim, doubling its speed and can become an overpowered sweeper with its high base attack and Wave Crash that deals massive damage to opponents.

  • Pelipper is Water/Flying, meaning it can use STAB-enhanced Hurricane to deal massive damage despite its low stats with 100% accuracy, which can confuse enemy Pokémon.

  • Politoed has access Pokemon's Perish Song, a move infamously used by World Champion Wolf Glick to win several tournaments with appropriately crafted “Perish Trap” teams combining Perish Song with Gothitelle to prevent the opponent from transitioning.

  • Pokemon Legends: ZABeginners have gained new abilities Pokemon Championsand Mega Meganium has Mega Sol. This exclusive ability allows Mega Meganium to act as if it is constantly under bright sunlight for its moves, meaning it can blast out sunbeams in one turn without actually needing the sun as weather. This is perfect for rain teams as the rain reduces the damage from Fire moves by 50%, thus protecting Mega Meganium.

Why the best Pokémon Champions strategy is weather

These are just some of the reasons why rain teams end up having a good portion of the meta dedicated to them. If Pokemon Legends: ZAThe best pokemon are any indication if or when Kyogre is added Pokemon Championsrain teams will be even more broken as Kyogre is often considered one of the best Pokemon of all time.

From Pokemon Champions will focus a lot on dual battles, which is the main VGC format anyway, it goes without saying that weather teams will be in the meta in some shape or form. Solar teams will also have very strong options as Venusaur is one of the best grass type pokemon ever and has the chlorophyll ability. Sand teams will be piloting the still powerful Tyranitar but now with the new Mega Excadrill to aid them in the process, or perhaps a tired and true Mega Garchomp.

Even Pokemon Legends: ZA's Mega Froslas gains a weather-based ability in Snow Warning that not only makes his Blizzard 100% accurate, but also increases his defense by 50%. Mega Dragonite could also appear in rain teams with STAB Hurricane for example. The options for weather pokemon are here and it's only a matter of time before they take over Pokemon Champions after starting it.
