Star Fox Reboot May Focus on Humor

If recent rumors are to be believed, Fox McCloud and Co. are apparently gearing up for a big comeback on the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year to the tune of a brand new video game, the first Star Fox title since 2016's Star Fox Zero for the Wii U.

Whenever the Star Fox reboot is announced and subsequently released, the game will apparently be a lot of fun, at least that's what one insider reports.

In a new episode of Video Games Chronicle's “VGC Podcast,” Alex Donaldson shares what he's heard about the upcoming project, noting that humor seems to play a significant role.

“So to be honest, I heard that it might be a thing, and the thing that she said to me was, 'Oh, the game is really fun,' and that suggests that maybe she's focusing on writing,” he said.

Fox McCloud in Super Mario Galaxy is just the beginning

Nintendo and Illumination sure look like they're about to debut the Super Smash Bros. Cinematic Universe.

Past Star Fox titles wouldn't necessarily be classified as “funny”, although there are some cheeky phrases. That humor seems to be the focus, and Nintendo seems to be taking a cue from Fox McCloud's big screen debut in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. There, Fox, voiced by Glen Powell, is particularly cheeky when he notes that, contrary to popular belief, he does not have robotic legs.

They are really great shoes.

Everything we know about the return of Star Fox

On the back of Fox being revealed as a character in the recently released The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, there was high hope from longtime Star Fox fans that the franchise could be gearing up for an imminent return. Never mind, the bit was later reported shortly after.

In terms of details, the Star Fox title will apparently be released sometime in 2026 alongside The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake. According to previous reports, it should be a classic style game and the visuals will be the main highlight.

Not only will there be a single player component, but there will also be multiplayer. All of this should be music to the ears of any Star Fox fan, as the franchise has been dormant for almost a decade now.

The only thing we don't know is when exactly Nintendo will lift the lid on its latest title. Summer seems like the best bet to me considering all the other events, but as we've learned over the years, Nintendo really does its own thing.
