Respawn Entertainment has removed Storm Point from the map rotation Apex Legends less than two weeks after its re-introduction. While many fans enjoy playing Storm Point, the map has recently caused some issues Apex Legends players, forcing the development team to take action.
The 2nd split of Season 28 has started for players, giving them a chance to climb up the ranked players again. As with most rated splits, this was accompanied by a mid-season update Apex Legendswhich brought many changes to battle royale. Notably, Wraith, Gibraltar, and Wattson all received significant buffs to their sets, making them more viable in ranked play. In addition to the Legends changes, the map pool was updated for the start of Split 2: Broken Moon and E-District were replaced by Olympus and Storm Point, while World's Edge remained in rotation. Respawn hoped these changes would help keep the ranked mode fresh, but players ran into issues on one of Split 2's maps.
Apex Legends is now a brand new game
My friends and I return to Apex Legends after years to basically find a brand new game waiting for us.
Respawn will temporarily remove Storm Point from pubs and include it in Apex Legends
Specifically, players encountered crash issues on Storm Point v Apex Legends. This led Respawn to remove the map from the Pubs and Ranked rotation on April 3rd. According to the developer's response on social media, Storm Point will remain out of the game until a permanent fix for the crash is discovered. While another update has been promised once things have changed, no timeline has been set, so it's unknown if the map will return for the rest of Season 28. Since it's missing, E-District has been pushed back into the rotation, meaning Olympus is the only different map currently available compared to Split 1.
Community reaction to the news was understandably mixed. Some players were happy that the map was removed in hopes of making the game more stable. However, others were disappointed to see mostly the same maps in rotation as in Split 1. While Storm Point and E-District are both large maps, their layouts are significantly different and offer different play scenarios. Additionally, several fans wondered why Kings Canyon was converted to the E-District.
While fans wait for Storm Point to return Apex LegendsRespawn recently kicked off the Aftershock Event. After popular Gundamtheme event, brings changes to wildcard mode Apex Legends. Hopefully these updates will keep the game fresh for those still playing. While Apex Legends may not be as popular as it once was, battle royale continues to be one of the most played games on platforms like Steam. Respawn has already revealed a detailed roadmap for the year ahead, so aside from the eventual return of Storm Point, players should have plenty to look forward to.
