Xbox Game Pass is adding the iconic RPG as its second game in April 2026

Final Fantasy IV formally joined the Xbox Game Pass library and is now available at most membership levels. This is the second title to land on the subscription service in April 2026, and the 54th addition to Xbox Game Pass since the start of the year.

During the first quarter of 2026, Microsoft's subscription service continued to expand Final Fantasy games, the introduction of one installment per month. In doing so, it passed the first three entries from Square Enix Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster collection that was originally released in April 2023 to critical acclaim. The last of these arrivals occurred on March 3, when Final Fantasy 3 Pixel Remaster joined Xbox Game Pass.

Xbox Game Pass subscribers can now stream even more of their own games

Xbox Game Pass is once again expanding its line of owned games that users can stream, with the service now supporting nearly 3,000 titles.

Xbox Game Pass adds its 4th Final Fantasy game in 4 months

The streak now officially continues Final Fantasy IVwhich was added to Xbox Game Pass on April 7. The 1991 JRPG remaster is now playable on three tiers of service: Premium, Ultimate, and PC Game Pass. It comes as the second catalog addition of the month and debuts shortly after Barbie horse trails joined Xbox Game Pass on April 2nd.

Among the fans, Final Fantasy IV is generally regarded as more than its three main predecessors. This reputation is largely due to the game's influence, with the 1991 title introducing many firsts to the series, including the Active Time Battle system, story-driven characters instead of player-created blank slates, party rotation as a storytelling device, and a bona fide love story. Final Fantasy IV he also helped cement Nobuo Uematsu's position as one of the leading composers in JRPGs. The game marked the first time he could work with fuller, warmer, more orchestral sounds based on samples rather than simpler progression-based chiptunes, making the jump from the NES to the much more powerful SNES possible.
