My Hero Academia Creator Kohei Horikoshi returns with new Toga art

My Hero Academia has become one of the most iconic shonen manga and anime series of the last decade. The creator of this masterpiece is none other than the talented Kohei Horikoshi. Horikoshi's manga ended in 2024, but despite that, he made sure to engage his fan base from time to time by showing off incredible new illustrations. Most recently, Horikoshi returned with an illustration of Himiko Toga, a popular member of the League of Villains, for the anime series' 10th anniversary. Fans are hoping for more such entries from this talented creator, especially for a full-fledged manga.

The anime series for My Hero Academia just turned ten years old, and that's a huge milestone for it. The anime was originally released on April 3, 2016. With such a big occasion, fans were excited to see if creator Horikoshi would release something new. Luckily, the talented mangaka didn't forget and immediately proceeded to reveal a brand new illustration on his X platform (@horikoshiko).

“Sorry for the late reply, but Happy New Year! Congratulations on the anime's 10th anniversary! Awesome! This is about the bloody dress and Ga-chan, which I wrote as a way to pass the time.” — Kohei Horikoshi

This illustration features a brand new never-before-seen design of Himiko Toga, a main member of the League of Villains. This new design elevates the Toga's character and highlights its special bloodline. In fact, the design was so impressive that many fans wished it was used in the manga at some point. However, such a complicated proposition would be nearly impossible to manage on a weekly basis, and Horikoshi was already overworked and overwhelmed.

Breaking down the evolution of the League of Villains icon

my hero academic villain league Evolution

The League of Villains has become one of the most famous antagonistic groups in anime. This group was introduced very early on in My Hero Academia when its leader Shigaraki appeared. But he was not the only worthy member of this group. Also with him was Himiko Toga, another incredibly impressive character. Toga's storyline centered around romance and accepting her true self, something her family and supposed loved ones never gave her.

Her story was unfortunate because her descent into villainy could have been easily avoided. At least Toga got a great ending from Horikoshi, with Ochaco Uraraka accepting her for who she was before ending up in the final war.

The anime adaptation of My Hero Academia ended in 2025 and its final arc ended in season 8. With that being said, the anime isn't technically completely finished yet. The franchise has one more episode coming up next month. The episode is called 'MORE' and has a release date of May 2, 2026.

Fans are extremely excited for this release and many would be delighted to know that League of Villains mainstay Himiko Toga will be heavily involved in it. Based on everything known, the special episode will cover the future events of My Hero Academia manga chapter 431 where all the characters are aged and active as Pro Heroes. Despite Toga having already died, her character would be raised again through Ochaco Uraraka, who developed a strong bond with her throughout the story and especially in the final battle.

Moving on to Kohei Horikoshi, fans are eager for his return to Weekly Shonen Jump, especially with the release of a new illustration. Horikoshi has proven to be one of the greatest artists to ever work in Weekly Shonen Jump, so his departure will only be temporary.

At this time, there are no reports of Horikoshi returning to the magazine anytime soon. However, he has previously said that he would like to create a new manga. In his last update, he clarified that he is working on suggestions for his new story, but nothing major has been revealed since then. It's definitely a possibility to see him return to the scene in the coming years.
