Fortune's Weave earns a PEGI rating

Last September, Nintendo made every Fire Emblem fan jump for joy when they announced a new entry in the long-running franchise, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive title that will launch sometime in 2026.

With the nearly three-minute long reveal trailer, Nintendo has provided the first few story clues, plus a first look at gameplay, before it fades away. Because it's been all radio silence from Nintendo since that September reveal, but some eagle-eyed fans believe the wait could be over soon, thanks to the now-revealed PEGI rating.

Nintendo's next big RPG could take the world by storm just like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Things are heating up in the world of Nintendo

On the Nintendo GB website, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave has a PEGI rating of 12, saying it has “Violence”, “Bad language” and “In-game purchases”. Normally this wouldn't be anything to look at, but as Fire Emblem fans pointed out, the PEGI 12 rating wasn't always there.

As recently as April 7th, the Nintendo eShop page for Fortune's Weave had a provisional PEGI rating. That rating was also PEGI 12, as Nintendo probably assumed that was where things would land once the game passed certification.

Where does that leave us? Well, Nintendo might be getting ready to release some more news about Fire Emblem soon. Where things get particularly interesting is whether this means a new Nintendo Direct is on the horizon.

That “In-Game Purchases” label shouldn't cause too much concern. Several other first-party Nintendo titles have had this designation, and it's almost always related to Nintendo Switch Online functionality rather than dedicated microtransactions.

Just two weeks ago, reliable insider NateTheHate reported that a standalone Nintendo Direct wouldn't be available until June. However, that doesn't mean there won't be any Nintendo Today reveals or the like.

Recent rumors have suggested that Star Fox is returning in a major way before Fox McCloud appears in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and that the reveal will happen sometime in April. Without Direct, Nintendo Today or social media makes the logical way to go.

Of course, Nintendo could have waited until June for all of this.

Adding to all of this is the fact that Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave isn't the only first-party title to have its rating updated, as Splatoon Raiders also had a rating change, and like Fire Emblem, it once had an interim rating that no longer exists.

What's more, these aren't the only titles that had ratings either. Guardians of the Galaxy, a 2021 Eidos-Montreal-developed title starring Marvel characters, also recently received a Nintendo Switch 2 rating, suggesting a port could be on the way. Elsewhere, Devil May Cry 5 also appears to be set for a Switch 2 release, with a separate SKU being evaluated in Taiwan.

Where there's smoke, there's fire, and in this case, the abundance of age ratings suggests that some major news is coming soon.
