This article contains spoilers for the Frieren manga.
In a magical world Frieren: Beyond Journey's Endmagic plays the most prominent role. It helps unify people, gives them purpose and even becomes the deciding factor in many battles. While magic is available to everyone, it is not the same for everyone. Exceptional mages like Fern work hard to become first class mages.
But even first-class mages fall short of great mages. The Great Mages are a select few notable figures who have contributed enormously to magic. Their strength and knowledge is far greater than the others, and they are some of the most powerful characters in Frieren: Beyond Journey's End so far. Let's take a look at each of them and see how they stack up against each other.

The 5 strongest elves in Frieren, ranked
The elves are extinct in Frieren, yet their species has no shortage of incredibly powerful elven mages.

Minus
Minus is an elven mage who is briefly mentioned in Chapter 133 of the Frieren manga. According to the members of the Shadow Warriors, she was a great mage who caused many wars in the southern lands. This made her guilty of treason and she was later defeated by an unknown warrior who is said to be Lowe. Very little is known about her, but with the wars she caused, it is evident that she was quite powerful. As an elf, she may have been on a similar level or even stronger than Frieren, but without evidence it seems appropriate to have her at the bottom of the list.

Flamme
The legendary mage Flamme is very responsible for humanity's progress in learning magic. According to Seria, she really loved magic and wanted it to be accessible to everyone. Therefore, at a time when magic was condemned and considered a killing tool used by demons, she urged the emperor to allow its use and study. She also helped train the Imperial mages who have become a key magical force in the present. It was largely due to Flamme's contributions that humanity was able to embrace magic and eventually fight against the Demon Lord's forces.
As one of Serie's students, Flamme was undoubtedly an exceptional mage. The barriers she built thousands of years ago are strong to this day. She was also Frieren's mentor and taught her the importance of suppressing her mana. Suppressing their mana allowed them to trick the demons into underestimating them and giving them a slight advantage. He is easily the most important human mage in history.

Frieren
Widely recognized as the mage who accompanied the Hero Party and helped defeat the Demon Lord, Frieren is an elven mage with thousands of years of experience. Notably, she killed more demons than anyone else in history, earning her the title “Frieren the Slayer”. She was mentored by humanity's best mage, Flamm, who taught her mana concealment, which she used to defeat formidable foes such as the Aura Guillotine.
Frieren is an exceptionally skilled mage, but according to Serie, she is miles away from her true potential. Her penchant for collecting spells gave her access to all kinds of spells. Most of them are useless in combat, but they also have access to some powerful spells. Notably, when she fights her clone, we see her spells, which were extremely powerful. Her clone was also able to cast a spell so powerful that Fern failed to register it as an attack, yet it severely injured her and broke her staff. Fern called it “The Height of Magic”.
Frierene's passion for magic also allowed her to analyze dangerous spells and contribute to the growth of humanity's magical system. She analyzed Zoltraak and turned it into a common offensive spell that is widely used by modern-day mages. Despite his easy-going nature, Frieren still has spells, mana, and skills far greater than most humans.

series
Also known as the Living Grimoire, the series is known for possibly knowing every spell ever written in human history. Not only does he know an infinite number of spells, but he also has the power to transfer them to others. Like Frieren, she is an elf who has lived for over a thousand years and mentored exceptional mages like Flamme and Lernen.
Her mastery of magic and instinct is second to none. During the second stage of the Prime Mage exam, she created a barrier that was said to be unbreakable and Frieren only destroyed it after a day of analysis. She also immediately spotted several of Lando's clones that no one had detected before. Her instinct is even praised by Frieren, who finds it “always right”.
Serie also suppresses his mana, which Lernen didn't detect because he was able to see the fluctuations in Frieren's mana. Fern was the only person who could see it. Also, Serie's suppressed mana is about the same as Frierene's unsuppressed mana, showing that Serie is truly the strongest mage in the world.
The world of Frieren still has many untold stories. There is a constant connection between the past and the present that introduces us to newer characters or better defines familiar characters. As new chapters and episodes come, the power of Frieren and Serie will be better understood. Do you agree that Serie is now the strongest Grand Mage?
