
New LEGO a set based on the Sega Genesis console has been officially announced. Scheduled for release in June 2026, the model will mark the second LEGO set based on Sega's retro gaming system.
LEGO has been producing officially licensed sets based on retro gaming hardware since 2020, when it partnered with Nintendo on a massive 2,646-piece NES set, a. Super Mario Bros. cartridge and a CRT TV whose side crank scrolled Mario through a simulated level. Since then, LEGO has released a fan-favorite Game Boy set and an Atari 2600 replica.
The LEGO Sega Genesis set has been announced with a June 2026 release date
In this trend, LEGO has just announced another brick-built console model, this time based on the influential Sega Genesis, which was originally released in North America in 1989. The set, numbered 40926, is set to go on sale on June 1, 2026, and will retail for $39.99. It will be available on the official LEGO website and through licensed distributors. No pre-order period has been announced.

The newly revealed model contains 479 units and shows the console in its signature top-loading design with two detachable controllers and a removable game cartridge. Sticker decorations allow builders to present the model as either a North American Sega Genesis or an international Mega Drive version. AND Sonic the Hedgehog the mosaic is tucked under the cartridge slot cover and is only visible when the cover is lifted.
The newly announced product marks the second time LEGO has produced a set based on the Sega Genesis. The first was the 40769 Sonic the Hedgehog Sega Genesis Controller, a 260-piece set released in September 2025 exclusively as a gift with purchase for orders over $130. This particular model was phased out within 30 days, as is the case with most GwP events. So the 40926 Sega Genesis Console is set to be bigger and considerably more affordable than its short-lived predecessor.
The Genesis set will reportedly not be the only LEGO product based on a Sega IP arriving in summer 2026. Sonic the Hedgehog The sets are reportedly targeting an August 2026 launch, with the upcoming duo said to include a replica of Tails' Tornado-1 plane for $29.99. Second set from next Sound The batch is said to retail for $49.99, but the trusted source is yet to provide details. Separately, LEGO is also rumored to expand its line of console models in late 2026, when the company is expected to unveil its first PlayStation 1 set. Designated as set number 72306, the PS1 replica is said to consist of 1,911 pieces and will launch in December 2026 for $159.99.
