Predator Escape – Subnautica 2 Review
Can you kill the predators in Subnautica 2?
Currently, there seems to be no way to permanently kill or deal with predators Subnautica 2. This will probably come as a surprise to fans of the original game, as lethal weapons were available at some point. However, this game seems to take a much different approach. Subnautica 2 — at least in its current Early Access state — is focused on avoidance and stealth.
There are two basic ways to deal with Predators Subnautica 2:
- escape: This is the primary method for a significant portion of the game. Distraction is key. Some advanced tools can also buy you time once they are created.
- Stealth: While technically a form of evasion, Stealth becomes a major option when you unlock certain passive Biomods and adaptations. This allows you to avoid predators altogether instead of having to react to their attacks.
How to avoid predators in Subnautica 2
Flares are the best early option:
When you first leave your Lifepod and start exploring the wreckage of the expedition, you'll find that there are hostile sea life in many places. Pretty soon, you'll be told A flare of distraction can be used to distract enemies. With all the information thrown at you in the beginning Subnautica 2, it is easy to see how many of them do not see this information.
How to make flares:
Fortunately, Distraction Flares are available to craft from scratch, and the required materials are incredibly plentiful. Crafting Flares requires the following items:
This recipe will give you three flares.
At the beginning of the game you will need to use the damaged Fabricator in the Lifepod. Once you unlock the Habitat Builder you'll be able to create your own Fabricator inside the base, but for now the Lifepod will do.
You should always keep a decent supply of Distraction Flares built for all circumstances. Make sure you have them on the Quickslot bar, especially early in the game. You can hover over an item in the main inventory to display a Quickslot prompt.
How to use Dispersive Flare in Subnautica 2:
Basically, the target will burst into flames with the distraction Subnautica 2 is to simply distract the enemy enemies and then run away.
You can do this as a preventative measure or as soon as you start getting attacked. Once you notice you're targeted, select a distracting burst from the Quickslot bar or main inventory. You'll then need to light the flare – RT on Xbox Series X – and then throw it. You'll want to throw it away from the target you're trying to reach.
Remember that this is only a temporary solution and most predators will not be distracted for long. This is why you want to keep a good supply of distraction flares with you at all times. You'll probably drop a few to stay safe when multiple predators are in one place.
Other escape methods in Subnautica 2:
While Distraction Flares will be the primary deterrent during the early parts of the game once you start unlocking advanced tools, there are some that can be used as defensive weapons.
The best example of this is the Sonic Resonator, which you have to unlock in order to continue the main story. To do this, simply create a basic scanner and then scan any abandoned sonic resonator you come across. Don't forget to search all abandoned buildings and platforms.
You can find Abandoned Sound Resonators in the following location:
- Blackbox Wu “Wu” Lianghai: Enter the structure across from the Old Habitat where Lianghai's Blackbox is located. On the lower level, you can find a Sonic Resonator on a table near one of the exits that you can scan. You can find another on the ground in the next room. Scanning both will unlock the Sonic Resonator blueprint.
Once you have the Sonic Resonator, you can use its power to temporarily stun mid-level predators, giving you a small window to escape or complete your mission.
You'll also eventually unlock tools like the Tadpole Submarine, which makes it much easier to avoid enemies on the go.
How to unlock Camouflage Biomod:
Stealth is also an option once you unlock the Camouflage mod. To do this, you'll need to scan the Bullethead located near the Alien Ruins in Krakorum.
Look in the deep trenches and near the base of the rock formations in this area. Once you have the Camouflage mod, you will be able to hide from enemies when they pass by you. Remember to keep an eye on your oxygen as it will continue to decrease as you hide.
