The ongoing development of Destiny 2 is coming to an end. Bungie has confirmed that the final update will launch on June 9th, with no new content coming to the game after that.
This concludes Destiny 2 after 12 years and rules out the possibility of new expansions. It comes as Bungie continues with its latest live service Marathon, which hasn't had a particularly smooth launch.
“As our focus turns to a fresh start for Bungie, we'll begin work on preparing our next games,” Bungie's blog post reads. “To that end, on June 9, 2026, we will be releasing the final live service content update for Destiny 2 to begin this new journey as a studio.
“While active development may come to an end, we will ensure that Destiny 2 remains playable just as the original Destiny is today. Many of the changes in this latest update will aim to make Destiny 2 a welcoming place for players to return to.”
The final event will be called Monument of Triumph and will expand on the annual Moments of Triumph celebration. We don't have all the details yet, but Bungie says it wants to address as many fan requests as possible and make it a “collection of love letters” to the player base.
