Troilite is a raw material that you will not encounter Subnautica 2 until NoA instructs you to explore the Tadpole Pens and you arrive at the alien ruins. There, your current map will almost double in size, and you'll have plenty of new resources and research locations to explore.
That said, most of this general area is heavily populated with predatory creatures, so you'll want to stay in your Tadpole for most of your exploration. Additionally, it's a good idea to have a secondary base built in this area before going into heavy resource farming, as the journey back to the rescue pod from there is long and dangerous.
Best places to farm Troilite
Once you reach the Alien Ruins, the first noticeable sign you come across is a tower that extends to the surface. If you continue east past this, eventually you'll reach a large dome-shaped structure with a heat pipe in the middle and a flower underneath.
From there, continue northeast through the canyonand you should reach another area with a green glowing liquid covering the ground. If you are in the right place, you should get a notification that you have arrived at the Metal Farms.
The exact location of the metal farms is 2,080 meters east-northeast (about 80 degrees) from the lifeboat and at a depth of about 450 m.
This area will be full of enemies who won't hesitate to attack if you leave your Tadpole, so be careful when collecting resources. in this area you should see deposits that look almost like titanium covered in bioluminescent green material. This is Troilite.
To harvest it you will need to use the Sonic Resonatorso make sure you have it equipped on your toolbar and ready to go when you leave the Tadpole. There are several locations in this area, so all you have to do is search around for that familiar green glow.
You'll also be able to grow Axum Bacterial Culture in the liquid matter on the ground here, so be sure to pick some of that up while you're here.
