Assassin's Creed Codename Hexoften simplified to Assassin's Creed Hexwas first announced during the Ubisoft Forward event in September 2022, and all too often many members of the community (like me) forget that it's just a codename. Simply put, it shouldn't be. If every rumor and leak about Assassin's Creed Hex is right, even if it's just a few of them, “Hexe” as a subtitle just sums up everything it's trying to do.
Apparently I'm not the only one who feels this way, as Redditor Snoo-55788 recently posted and shared the same sentiment regarding Assassin's Creed Hex. The title flows nicely. Hexwhich is a Germanic word for Witch, nicely adds emphasis to the specific setting and Wurzburg witch trials, and as I mentioned, is commonly used by the fandom. Even its acronym, AC Hexit is simply pleasing to the eye. “Coven” is another popular idea for your real name in the community, and while it's not bad, Hex it's just better. However, as a codename, there is some concern that it will change, but there is clearly room for it to remain the same.
Assassin's Creed Hex has a real chance to stay AC Hex
Most of the codenames are internal names for game development projects to prevent any key information from slipping out. For example, rumors suggest that Assassin's Creed Hex the protagonist's real name is Anika, not the previously discussed Elsa, as Elsa was just an internal name. Hex was never just an internal name to cover up, especially since it was announced as Codename Hex. And while most of the codenames are changing, fans in the community have also pointed out that some games haven't ditched the codenames.

Internal names versus player-facing names are key considerations at any studio, and in response to Snoo-55788's original Reddit post, Brilliant_Ideal_5429 highlighted some of the franchise's internal names:
-
Comet for Assassin's Creed Rogue
-
Victory for Assassin's Creed Syndicate
-
Empire for Assassin's Creed Origins
-
Kingdom for Assassin's Creed Valhalla
-
Rift for Assassin's Creed Mirage
-
Red for Assassin's Creed Shadows
That doesn't mean it can't stay the same. Interestingly, a Reddit user pointed this out Assassin's Creed Unity's code name was just Unity before it became a player-facing name; until recently it was just Codename Jade before it was finalized as Assassin's Creed Jade. Especially these two games Nephritegive it hope Hex hanging on to its name once it begins its official marketing and proper unveiling.

Whether or not this is the case remains to be seen, but Ubisoft is undoubtedly aware that “Hexe” is already part of the community's vocabulary. Changing it, even if it doesn't technically change it, can only hurt the community. It would be a pretty easy shift, and it's not like there's much complaining, but changing the name of something so common in this lexicon is essentially resetting conversations, resetting rooted content and discussions, and just, generally speaking, resetting marketing. Even if it came out right away with the Wurzburg witch trials, the sharing of information would undoubtedly have some impact. No doubt people would be thrilled AC Hex who are unaware of the announcement and that it was the AC Coven (or whatever) and although most of these cases would be minor, they would leave Hex it doesn't harm anything at all.
