No, you cannot “fix” any romances HellHeart Breakeran upcoming action-like roguelike game Hades 2but you will have to fight some of them. For those of you who don't know, HellHeart Breaker is an indie Steam title developed and published by BattleBrew Productions, scheduled for release in Q1 2027. Of course, it wears the Hades 2 inspiration on its sleeve, right down to the way NPCs interact with the player, but it's pretty much a unique flavor for Steam games with an even more unique boss fight mechanic.
IN HellHeart Breakerplayers wake up in an Asian-themed underworld (compare to Hades 2 even more aptly), which is set to look like Shanghai in the 1920s. They find themselves in a forgotten bath house before heading to the last remaining city, called Aashraya. Players struggle to reclaim their identities as they are also marked by an ominous prophecy, yet also find themselves at home with various characters HellHeart Breaker. Aashraya serves as the main hub where players can explore and return between roguelike runs around the world.

Fall in love with Aashray
While every resident HellHeart Breaker has yet to be revealed, players can expect fun twists and interesting characters: a Naga princess, an Oni blacksmith, a Kitsune courtesan, and an Asuran enforcer are all characters that players will encounter. During their stay in Aashraya, they will be able to learn new abilities and master the elements of the various clans in the city, falling in love with at least one of them, if not more. To achieve this, players must impress the Scion clan, each bringing their own circumstances, problems, difficulties, and agenda to the game. Each clan wants to help the player regain their identity and allow them to escape this underworld, but that's where things get a little tricky.
Players will be able to commit to a clan, but there are 7 clans in total. From there, players can understand how the clans relate to the 7 worlds that players can fight their way through, the 7 different elemental trees that can be accessed, as well as the 35 different weapons. However, players should beware of scorned lovers.

Scorned Lovers Become a Battle Boss
Depending on the choices players make, they will inevitably have to reject some of Aashraya's potential lovers and add more stakes to her dating simulation game. However, for some it doesn't just end in grief. Each Monster Girl players meet will grant them new abilities, and those rejected will become boss battles you face in your roguelike runes. Having such a unique mechanical trigger for boss battles will undoubtedly increase replayability, especially with how it affects the story, and it looks like it will. As of this writing HellHeart Breaker is confirmed to have 9 different endings.
Relax and feel cozy at Aashraya
Between runs, players can decorate their home in Aashraya and also customize their outfit. There appear to be male and female options for the main character as they are said to come in “two variants”. Players can also visit key locations in the city, such as hunting for a nearby fishing spot or checking out the Food Market.

HellHeart Breaker'The dev studio hasn't expanded much on the combat beyond what's seen in screenshots and glimpses of the trailer, but it makes sense to focus primarily on the city and characters. This is without a doubt his calling card. That said, from what can be seen, the combat is very similar to the games Hades 2— if it's easier at first glance. There are a few abilities and weapons that players use as they battle across the arenas, and that's pretty much it. Still, with such a strong premise, it will be interesting to see how it pans out as it builds towards a Q1 2027 release.

Eventually, HellHeart BreakerThe Steam site sells the game almost entirely on style, character dynamics, and replayability. Whether the final product can fully balance everything remains to be seen, but as an ambitious indie project it's utterly compelling. It has a strong hook to say the least, especially compared to all the indie roguelikes out there. Between a Shanghai-inspired underworld setting, a romantic energy system, and the promise of multiple endings shaped by who players love or fight, HellHeart Breaker looks set to carve out its own niche if it can deliver on its ideas.
