The Dragon Quest YouTube channel has 8 unlisted announcements

The Dragon Quest 40th Anniversary stream looks set to be a big one, as Square Enix's official YouTube playlist for the series features a whopping eight private videos.

Earlier this month, Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii confirmed in an episode of KosoKoso that has since gone private that a livestream is planned for the series' 40th anniversary. Due to the big date and the somewhat secretive way the live stream was confirmed, DQ fans were already hoping that he would have some long-awaited announcement.

I'm talking, of course, about the possible news in Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate, which was announced for the 35th anniversary of the series almost five years ago. The chances of that happening are a little more likely, as some have noticed that the official Dragon Quest YouTube playlist has eight private videos, presumably for an upcoming stream.

It's a one in eight chance, at least

As pointed out by Twitter user thegamersjoint, Square Enix Japan's Dragon Quest playlist on the official YouTube channel was briefly spotted with eight private videos hidden within. With Yuji Horii's recent claim that a live stream is planned for next week, it's highly likely that these videos are meant to air during the live stream.

I went to look at the video list myself and it said the unavailable videos are hidden, but others have uploaded a screen and screenshot of the eight private videos so it looks legit.

Dragon Quest is a massive series with pool spin-offs, so the eight announcements could really be for anything from a new Builders game to the next Reimagined remake. That being said, given how long it's been since we've heard anything about Dragon Quest 12, and given that it's the 40th anniversary, it seems likely that we'll get a little update on the long-awaited sequel.

Ever since Dragon Quest 12: The Flames of Fate was announced nearly five years ago, we've seen absolutely nothing of it aside from the initial trailer, which basically just showed the logo. We've heard bits and pieces here and there like a darker story is planned, but there's a lot we don't know and hopefully we'll finally find out in a few days.
