This gives fans a glimpse into the past of some of the most popular characters, especially those not explored in the manhwa. With the addition of Liu Zhigang to the game, he was given the same treatment with a new story. Liu's new story is exciting, especially considering that he's one of the most popular characters, but he doesn't have his past or his story in Solo leveling Web Novel and Manhwa.
In a new one-shot on June 4, 2026, it was revealed that Liu Zhigang was raised in a wealthy family in China as his successor. Liu was already skilled with a sword, but one random day he was struck with blindness and became extremely ill, bringing him close to death. Seeing his deteriorating health, his family considered adopting a new heir, which Liu noticed.
However, one day, Liu's room is engulfed in flames. His family assumes he must have burned to the ground, but Liu actually rises as a newly awakened Hunter, fully healed. His family's attitude towards him immediately shifts to a more positive one. However, it was too late for Liu Zhigang. Seeing the lack of true loyalty, Liu decides to leave and forge his own path for true honor.
This makes Liu Zhigang one of the strongest hunters around and one of the few official national level hunters. He is second only to Thomas Andre of the USA in the world. However, in Asia, Liu Zhigang is the #1 national level hunter because Jinwoo will never officially reach the national level rank. Liu's story is exciting, but due to Chugong's lack of involvement in his creation for Netmarble's game, it cannot be considered canon.

Liu Zhigang will officially join the anime in Solo Leveling Season 3
Liu Zhigang is undoubtedly a fan favorite character. Technically, he's already been seen in the anime. At the end of Solo Leveling Season 2, his power was teased when he was shown decimating the remains of Jeju Island ants.
Although it was only a small preview, his full form is officially on the way and will be introduced in Solo Leveling Season 3, specifically during the Japan Crisis Arc, where he takes a keen interest in Jinwoo. It will also be relevant in the International Guild Conference Arc and will be seen in the National Level Hunters vs Kamish flashback.
