Nintendo has officially confirmed that its highly-anticipated next live stream will finally take place on June 9, 2026, with the company expected to showcase what it has planned for the rest of 2026 and beyond. There's no shortage of Nintendo's plans for 2026, as its current schedule is fairly open, with a handful of confirmed games such as Star Fox launching on June 25.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting the Nintendo Direct announcement, but it seems the company has decided to wait until the excitement of the previous weekend has died down to take center stage. It was a very busy weekend for the games industry as both Sony and Microsoft held their own showcase events along with Geoff Keighley's annual Summer Game Fest which had some massive reveals like Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. As the dust finally settles after a busy weekend, Nintendo gets a chance to steal the spotlight from Switch 2 fans.

As it turns out, the recent Nintendo Direct rumors were indeed true, as the upcoming showcase is scheduled for June 9th, starting at 7:00am PT on the company's official YouTube channel, and is also available via the Nintendo Today app for smart devices. In addition, the presentation will be followed by a Nintendo Treehouse segment where games will be demonstrated live. Nintendo has confirmed that the direct will last around 50 minutes, with the Treehouse portion lasting around 95 minutes in total. All in all, it's been a long wait for a new dedicated Direct for Nintendo, with Nintendo usually offering options for specific games/franchises or partners only lately.

As expected, speculation has already begun as to what Nintendo might show off during those 50 minutes. Unfortunately, the description of the YouTube video wasn't much help, only confirming that Nintendo will be highlighting upcoming Switch and Switch 2 games, with a Treehouse segment showing off gameplay for select titles. With regard to Star Fox already received its own dedicated Direct, the game is unlikely to take up much, if any, time outside of a potential launch trailer.
As for what's left, it's possible that fans will finally get their due Popopia DLC, or maybe another trailer for 2027 Pokemon winds and waves. However, it seems highly likely that The Legend of Zelda franchise will appear as rumors continue to circulate of a brand new open world game along with a remake of the game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Other whispers have seemingly mentioned the new 2D Metroidmaybe Pikmin 4 Switch 2 port, and even potential Switch Sport game. It is possible that previously confirmed games like Splatoon Raiders and Fire sign shadows they are also listed in more depth during the showcase.

While Nintendo's 2026 calendar is relatively empty at the moment, the content release schedule as a whole is much busier than it would traditionally be thanks in large part to Grand Theft Auto 6 launching in November. Many studios instead focused on September and October in an attempt to avoid Rockstar's latest title altogether, making those two months full of big releases.
