Spyro: A Realm Beyond could just be the start of the purple dragon's return, as Toys for Bob has confirmed it wants to make “many new games” in the series.
With games like Gears of War: E-Day, Clockwork Revolution, Persona 6, Halo and more at the Xbox Games Showcase, you'd think one of them would end up dominating the event. I'm very glad that's not the case, because the actual showstealing revelation came from none other than Spyro.
As rumored before the show, Toys for Bob has finally announced that its next game in partnership with Xbox is Spyro: A Realm Beyond, the first new game in the series in 18 years. It was easily the most hyped reveal of the showcase, and it sounds like Toys for Bob is more than happy to keep hanging on to the beloved dragon.
Spyro might be back for good as bob toys want to make more games after Realm Beyond
“Hopefully this is the first of many”
As Push Square pointed out, GamesRadar+ had a chance to chat with Toys for Bob studio head Paul Yan following Spyro's reveal at Summer Game Fest. Yans said he's proud of his team, which has been “paying attention and listening to the community” ever since the Reignited Trilogy was released eight years ago.
It's well known how big of a deal it is to give Spyro a brand new game nearly two decades after the last all-original title, but Yan makes it clear that this could just be the beginning of a new era. Yan said the team's goal is for “Spyro to live for a long time”, noting that Toys for Bob wants “not just one game, but many new games”.
With that in mind, the developer knew they had to take risks and push Spyro into “new territory” instead of just relying on the same old formula. This goes some way to explaining Spyro's slightly older design, his ability to fly, and the fact that he's in a whole new realm unseen in the original games.
