Focus in the Troll Canyon is one of the main stone quests Gothic 1 remake. It is available as part of The Focus Stones, a Chapter 3 main quest that players receive from Saturas at the end of The Water Mages' Plan.

How to start Focus in Troll Canyon in Gothic 1 Remake
Focus in the Troll Canyon is available during The Focus Stones, the main quest Saturas gives you after completing The Water Mages' Plan. Before going after any of the focal stones, you should first visit the tower that Diego marked on your map when he gave you The Water Mages' Plan. This location was marked on the previous map and if you haven't purchased it yet, you should check out our How to Get a Map guide.
When you reach the tower, talk to the NPCs you find there to mark the positions of the focus stones on your map. This conversation will also cause NPCs to move to these positions and you will meet Milten when you enter Troll Canyon.
Where to find Troll Canyon
To get to Troll Canyon, cross the small bridge north of the Old Camp and continue north through the wooded area. Continue north, past the cave entrance that leads to the Rogues' Camp, until you run into Milten. The location of Troll Canyon was marked on the previous map, although it should be shown on your game map if you visited the above tower first.
There are some dangerous enemies on the way to Troll Canyon, including Snappers that hit pretty hard. Make sure you have decent armor, a strong weapon, and plenty of healing items before you head out.
Follow Milten into the hideout
After you find Milten, talk to him and follow him to the shelter on the right side of Troll Canyon. When you enter the hideout, he may be momentarily distracted by the shelf, but eventually he should move and explain that he can create a scroll that shrinks the troll. This scroll dispatches the enemy much more easily and allows you to reach the focus, although Milten needs troll hides to prepare it.
On the shelf Milten stops by is a mana-restoring potion. Be sure to pick it up if your current mana is very low, as you will need at least five mana to use the Shrink Monster scroll.
Where to find troll skins
Troll hides are on the side of Troll Canyon opposite the shelter. There are several Goblin Warriors between the shelter and the skins and you should clear them out before trying to collect the materials.
A safe way to fight Goblin Warriors is to get their attention, pull them back into cover, and defeat them there. This method allows you to kill goblins without directly engaging the troll, although it does require some patience.
Once the Goblin Warriors are dead, collect the troll skins from the area opposite the hideout, if you can't find them, use the image above. There are also some Trollbane Nettles around the troll hides and they are worth picking up now.
What if you sold troll skins?
Some players report finding and selling troll skins before The Focus starts in Troll Canyon. If you're in this situation, try going back to the seller you bought the skins from and see if you can buy them back.
If you can't remember which vendor you sold them to, you may have to try to defeat the troll without shrinking it. Alternatively, you can load a save from before you sold the skins, although this may not be feasible if you sold them a long time ago.
At the time of writing, another Shrink Monster scroll source has not been verified. So buying troll skins, reloading an earlier save, or fighting a troll without a scroll are the options available to you.
How to Shrink a Troll
After collecting all the troll skins, return to Milten in the hideout and give them to him. Uses the skins to create a Shrink Monster scroll that can be cast on the troll. Simply place the scroll on your hotbar, wait for the troll to move into range, and cast a spell on it. Then it will be pretty easy to defeat the troll and you will be ready to continue chasing the firestone once it is dispatched.
Shrink Monster costs 5 mana, which means you can cast it without investing in mana upgrades. However, your current mana must be high enough when you use it, and the aforementioned mana recovery potion is an easy way to meet this requirement.
How to open a gate in Troll Canyon
After the troll is dead, interact with the lever on the left side of the gate in the area. Milten will interact with the lever on the right, the gate will rise and you will be able to continue forward.
After going through the gate, follow the path all the way to the end to reach a small alcove with a chest. Inside that chest is a Scroll of Telekinesis, which is required for the next step, and you should make sure to take it before returning to the previous chamber.
How to use telekinesis to reach focus
After returning to the previous chamber, climb the stairs, defeat the harpies at the top, and approach the ledge near the platform with the focal stone. You will see some purple crystals on the side of the platform and you can cast Telekinesis on them to create a bridge that is used to reach the stone.
To create this bridge, equip a Telekinesis scroll to your active panel, focus on the brightest purple crystal, and hold the spell until the bridge is fully extended. If you stop channeling Telekinesis too soon, the bridge may not be long enough to safely cross the gap to the platform.
If your maximum mana is very low, you may need to use an herb that restores mana over time before casting Telekinesis. Dark Herbs, Raven Herbs, or Trollbane Nettles can help you channel the spell long enough to extend the bridge, and a few Trollbane Nettles can be found near troll hides if you have nothing else to use.
How to get focus from Troll Canyon
Once the bridge is fully extended, cross it and approach the focal stone platform. Interact with the stone to get Focus from Troll Canyon. You can then return to Saturas in New Camp and complete The Focus in Troll Canyon for 3500 XP.
