Kingdom Hearts 4 came out of hibernation with a brand new trailer unveiled during the June 2026 Nintendo Direct. While the Nintendo Direct was certainly a surprising place for the new Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer for the pop-up, the trailer itself left a lot to be desired. Aside from confirming a day one release on the Nintendo Switch 2, the trailer only really showed off the characters from The heart of the kingdom a game that is no longer playable and additional Sora gameplay in Quadratum.
I'm fine with keeping multiple Disney Worlds Kingdom Hearts 4 hidden to maintain a sense of mystery and surprise when the game finally launches. What worries me, though, is the game's commitment to a more realistic art style, as shown by the Quadratum footage shared so far. The heart of the kingdom is iconic, in part for its unique, cartoony art style, so see KH4 the departure from visual design with Quadratum makes me nervous about the rest of the game.

4 Square Enix games keep shutting down
Square Enix officially announces the permanent retirement and end date/times for 4 iconic games, but the story doesn't end there.
Kingdom Hearts 4's realistic art style has yet to sell me
The realistic graphics arms race that has persisted over the last few console generations hasn't really affected The heart of the kingdom so many. It is true that this is partly because the only major The heart of the kingdom releases in recent years have been HD ports of older ones The heart of the kingdom games and Kingdom Hearts 3. While the other walks a fine line between keeping the classics The heart of the kingdom art style and dipping your toes into more impressive, realistic visuals, jump into Kingdom Hearts 4 It seems to push more on the side of realism KH3 they dabbled and it remains to be seen how much the game will commit to this art direction.

Quadratum is really the only KH4 world we've seen so far
Hard to tell now if realistic art style, right Kingdom Hearts 4 shown to be present throughout the game, or if unique to the world of Quadratum. So far, Quadratum is the only world that has been shown, it is said to function as the main world for the game, similar to Traverse Town or Twilight Town in past Kingdom Hearts installments. S Quadratum said to be The heart of the kingdom A space view of Shibuya in Tokyo in the real world, then it would make sense for it to retain a realistic art style.
So until more Disney worlds are shown Kingdom Hearts 4we won't really be able to get a clear picture of the game's final art style. However, as it is, I don't like the realistic look. It's fine for Quadratum because it's supposed to be based on the real world, but seeing Sora without his oversized boots doesn't sit right with me. The heart of the kingdom fan and his spiky hairstyle also doesn't translate to a realistic art style.

Yen Sid Tower
While none of these worlds have been officially confirmed Kingdom Hearts 4some of them appeared in more The heart of the kingdom games like Hercules' Olympus Colosseum, Destiny Islands, Hollow Bastion, and Yen Sid's Tower feel like a shootout. The The heart of the kingdom the original worlds may still retain the realistic Quadratum art style, so it will really depend on which new Disney worlds are added to determine if the Quadratum art style will continue throughout the game.
AND Zootopia or The Princess and the Frog the world would probably see Sora, Goofy, and Donald transform into animals to fit in with the rest of the world's aesthetic, much like The Lion King's Pride Lands in Kingdom Hearts 2. Pixar movie worlds like those of The Incredibles, Coconutand Inside out would probably all have unique art styles that bend realism to fit their aesthetic, much like Kingdom Hearts 3'with Toy Story and Monsters, Inc. worlds. However, heavily rumoured Star Wars and the Marvel worlds would likely adopt a more realistic art style to match the live-action films most prominent in their respective franchises.
A cel-shaded comic art style would be a great way to make the Marvel world feel different from other worlds with realistic art styles.
Why I still have hope for the classic Kingdom Hearts art style
In the end, I still hope so Kingdom Hearts 4 won't adopt the completely realistic art style of Quadratum, simply because there are too many options for Disney worlds with unique art styles to pass up. Past The heart of the kingdom the games were able to connect more earthly worlds with cartoons with great success, such as Kingdom Hearts 3'with Pirates of the Caribbean the realistic visuals of the world compared to the more stylized look of worlds like the game ConfusedKingdom of Corona and Big hero sixis San Fransokyo.

See Quadratum again and again in trailers on Kingdom Hearts 4 refers in terms of artistic style. However, the fact that it is the only confirmed world Kingdom Hearts 4 for now, it probably means there's still a lot left to show for a release date for the next one The heart of the kingdom gets closer. I'm not interested in the realistic direction right now Kingdom Hearts 4 with its art style, but that could change as more Disney worlds show up to keep that style over the classic The heart of the kingdom appearance or individual art style of a given Disney IP.
