The reveal of the new Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4 trailer marks the official return of Gojo Satoru
Jujutsu Kaisen is a shonen manga series by Gege Akutami. This manga debuted on March 5, 2018 in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #14. The series continued to be serialized for several years before reaching its 30th episode conclusion on September 30, 2024. The series was short lived but massively successful. On October 3, 2020, the series was picked up and adapted into a television anime by acclaimed studio MAPPA. Jujutsu Kaisen returned with Season 2 in 2023 and recently Season 3 in 2026. The series still has a lot to offer and the next big project is Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4 which is part 2 of the Culling Game.
On June 19, 2026, MAPPA held a major event to celebrate its 15th anniversary, and as expected, Jujutsu Kaisen was the main highlight as one of the biggest anime studios. During this event, Jujutsu Kaisen finally revealed its latest trailer for Season 4. This new trailer highlighted one controversial JJK artifact associated with Gojo – the Prison Realm. As we know, Gojo Satoru was sealed into this Special Grade Cursed Artifact during the Shibuya Incident arc. In the anime, the tragedy unfolded in season 2, episode 9, while in the manga, it happened in chapter 90. This cursed object was able to subdue the world's most powerful wizard for quite some time, but now its return is imminent. The new Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4 trailer focused on this object for a big reason, because Gojo will finally be unsealed in the upcoming Season 4, near the end.
“Also, we should free Gojo sensei. That guy could handle everything by himself.” — Megumi sets the goal of freeing Gojo Satoru, JJK Season 3
There have already been rumors of Gojo unsealing the Jujutsu Kaisen at the end of Season 4, and based on the progress and pace seen in Season 3, it's officially set to come out by the end of next season. Goj's unsealing would be the perfect cliffhanger and set off big battles. This means that in the anime, Gojo will be free again in 2027.

Jujutsu Kaisen ended with many wizards not being able to reach their full potential and it was a big disappointment.
How Gojo will be freed in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4
In the manga, Gojo was unsealed JJK chapter 221. In this sense, we already know what will happen in the 4th season of the anime, including how Gojo will be freed. With that being said, the anime itself has already revealed the answer to how Satoru will make it out of the cube. In Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Episode 2 (JJK Chapter 145 in the manga), it was revealed that there are three ways to free Gojo without the consent of Kenjaku, who imprisoned him there. Using the back room held by Tengen, there are several options to explore:
-
The first way is to use the Inverted Spear of Heaven previously held by Toji Fushiguro. This spear can cancel cursed abilities, which is why it could break Gojo. Unfortunately, he was disposed of by Gojo himself after killing Toji in the Flashback arc.
-
The second way Gojo could be freed is through the Black Rope. The Black Rope is a cursed tool created by Miguel Oduola's clan in Africa and can also cancel cursed techniques. Unfortunately, just like the first option, Gojo also took it.
“The authority to open the gate rests with Kenjaku as the bearer of the 'Front'. The breach requires either the Inverted Spear of Heaven, which cancels cursed techniques, or the Black Rope, which disrupts and cancels the effects of cursed techniques.” — Tengen in Chapter No. 145 JJK

It might seem that Goya's fate is sealed, but there is one more way to save him, and that is through the cursed angel technique. Angel is a reincarnated wizard from the Heian era, and her technique extinguishing ability can negate cursed techniques. Thanks to her abilities, Gojo will finally be freed and able to participate in the ongoing battle for Jujutsu Kaisen. But to do that, the wizards have to find her and win her over, which will unfold in the upcoming season.
