From GTA 6 to Wolverine, these are our most anticipated remaining releases for 2026

We're halfway through 2026 and the rest of the year still looks absolutely packed with games. I suppose that's mainly due to the seismic release of Grand Theft Auto 6, which threw a huge wrench into everyone else's launch plans, but it means we're in for a particularly challenging late summer and probably a pretty busy start to 2027.

They exist load of exciting titles released in the next few months, from the new Gears of War, the revamped Call of Duty, Insomniac's Wolverine and a few more.

Halo: Campaign Evolved

July 28, 2026

Halo: Campaign Evolved is a brand new, modernized version of the original Halo: Combat Evolved built in Unreal Engine 5. Early looks have shown a lot of promise, and it reimagines this classic for a new generation.

It's not just an aesthetic overhaul though, there are new weapons, new Skull mods (like the ability to play the entire game in third person) and three brand new missions. It's old Halo in a new framework.

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls

August 6, 2026

From the creators of Guilty Gear comes a brand new Marvel fighting game. Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls looks like nothing else in the Marvel universe, with an aesthetic that reimagines the familiar cast of characters in slick new designs and visuals.

Arc System Works has managed to inspire a whole new collection of Marvel fans with the inclusion of some franchise favorites like the Green Goblin and Carnage – which we got a glimpse of in its latest trailer.

Xbox shows off a collage of Persona, Clockwork Revolution, Halo, Spyro, Gears of War, Fable and Doom.

Resonance: A Plague Story Legacy

Plague story Resonance Sophia with the mask of Theseus.

August 27, 2026

I played a few hours of Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy a few weeks ago, and I can tell you that it is definitely a spin-off from the main game series with a greater focus on combat than its predecessors. You can read more about my experience with the game here, but for the sake of clarity I've decided that this Resonance is basically an action movie version of the main games.

Expect a faster pace, more bombastic quests and a whole litany of bizarre mythology.

Resonant control

Combat in Control Resonant

September 24, 2026

My colleague Jade King recently sat down with a preview build of Control Resonant. She noted that fans may have been wary of the direction Remedy Entertainment's follow-up to the seminal Control might have taken, but that we can all rest assured that the studio has proven to know exactly what it's doing.

“It may completely change the combat style as it moves towards melee-focused character action, but the intrigue that drips from every environment and every single line of dialogue remains,” Jade writes in her full preview, which you can read here.

Dawnwalker blood

September 2, 2026

The more I read about The Blood Of Dawnwalker, the more curious I become. This is basically The Witcher 4, but with vampires. Set in dark 14th century Europe, it looks gritty and miserable, like all good video games. Rebel Wolves' debut title has all the makings of a classic RPG, but with so few sequels, we can only speculate how well it will actually fare.

I'm absolutely addicted to its aesthetic, writing and concept, so count me in (ha ha ha) for its release later this year. Another potentially excellent title crammed into one of the busiest Septembers I can remember.

Rayman Legends Retold, Valheim 1.0 Release, Fields Of Mistria, Grave Seasons, Star Wars: Galactic Racer

Phantom Blade Zero

The fighter chops the enemy in the air.

October 28, 2026

Alongside its imaginative new PlayStation trailer, Phantom Blade Zero is quietly picking up steam for those who enjoy action role-playing games. Our own Sam Woods played this way back in 2025, and while the S-Games title may have initially felt like soul, he compared it favorably to the likes of Ninja Gaiden and Devil May Cry in his demo.

It has the potential to become the next wuxia hit like Where Winds Meet and Black Myth: Wukong.

Gears Of War: E-Day

October 6, 2026

I keep forgetting that Gears of War: E-Day is coming out this year, just because this year is so busy, but it's also the one I'm probably the most quietly excited about. I have a lot of fond memories of playing Gears of War as a teenager, and even though I haven't visited the universe in a while, what better place to return than to a game that looks like “the brutal origin story of one of the most respected third-person shooter games.” Gold star and lollipop to whoever wrote that PR piece because I'm all in.

I really, really hope the game leans into the sheer brutality of the so-called 'Emergence Day', the day the terrifying Locust emerges from the earth and wreaks havoc on Sera, and from the trailers we've seen so far, it looks like it captures the 'first day' vibe that's always so exciting.

3

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 4

Captain Price in Modern Warfare 4.

October 23, 2026

I think I say this almost every year, but maybe Call of Duty is back? After the roaring success of Battlefield 6, Activision seems to be trying to get a much pages from the textbook, including (apparently) scrapping crazy skins. No more Nicki Minaj bouncing on your head.

But it also feels like the upgrade that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2019 was to the franchise. Sometimes you just need to make big leaps forward, with graphics and quality of life upgrades, to keep the audience happy. We think it looks great, but as always, Call of Duty will have to do so many regain our trust.

Marvel's Wolverine

September 15, 2026

I've spent a lot of time writing about Marvel's Wolverine over the past few days (mostly analyzing the absolutely stacked September release window), and while I'm by no means a Marvel fan, I've started to get turned around. Wolverine might actually become the game I play on my new PS5 before jumping into GTA6.

My only hope is that Insomniac's writing lives up to the supposedly grittier world of Logan, and I hope that its billing as “brutal” and “violent” lives up to my expectations. Some moments in the trailer are absolutely brutal, to be fair, when Wolverine jumps off a building and digs his claws into the face of a random grunt. Marvel's Wolverine is of course the one to watch.

Grand Theft Auto 6

November 19, 2026

Ah, Grand Theft Auto 6 is finally here. With pre-orders starting very soon, the release date is now completely confirmed, 100 percent. Sure? I feel for the developers. How to say goodbye to such a project? Something that took many years to develop at an astronomical cost, generally considered the most expensive single piece of media ever created?

I have no idea. It will never be finished, but eventually you just have to let go and let the players do the rest. After a long wait and months of hype, we finally get to play Grand Theft Auto 6 this year.
