A new report claimed that the latest batch Grand Theft Auto 6 the screenshots may not run in real time, suggesting that the final game may not look as good when it launches in November. While Rockstar hasn't officially confirmed anything, some details have recently surfaced GTA 6 the screenshots might indicate that they may not have been captured during real-time gameplay.

Game graphics downgrades between marketing and release are always a controversial topic. There have been several notable examples in the past, of which the original is probably the most famous Watch Dogs. It's obviously frustrating for fans to be sold the idea of one game only to get another, which is why many are cautious when it comes to marketing new games.

A new report from Digital Foundry commented on whether GTA 6The latest screenshots are likely to run in real-time, they say: “With such a high level of fidelity on show, the question still remains as to which platform is actually being used to generate these images. To be clear, it seems unlikely to us that these would be real-time results on the PS5, Xbox Series X – or at best the PS5 Pro console. Of course, we'd like to be surprised and be forcefully answered. For example, the combination of pristine image quality that suggests native 4K render (or higher), and the inconsistent lighting of foreground characters casts doubt on how feasible this is.” The report also follows up by pointing out that “these would be easy for Rockstar to generate in the game's development environment… with all settings set to 11.”

The problem is that it's unclear how feasible it is for current generation consoles to achieve this level of graphical fidelity, at least at a playable frame rate. Digital Foundry casts doubt on the prospect, but it's important to note that it's also not suggesting it's impossible. It would be the biggest compliment to Rockstar if they were able to deliver these real-time graphics on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5 or even PS5 Pro.

This is already known GTA 6 it will have PlayStation 5 Pro-specific tweaks, but how much of a difference that will make to the game's performance on the platform remains to be seen. Right now, this version seems likely to be the most powerful version GTA 6especially with a PC version that hasn't been confirmed yet.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is seemingly set for a November 19, 2026 release date, after several previous delays. The game has been a long time coming, but the 13-year wait is finally coming to an end. With summer just underway, Rockstar is slowly revealing more details GTA 6. However, the elusive third trailer is still nowhere to be seen, so let's hope the developer delivers in due course.
