Here we are again with another round of rumors heading to Legend of Zelda: Princess Twilight get a remake for the Switch 2, and while I would fully support the idea at one point, the upcoming release Ocarina of Time the remake makes me want something completely different: a complete remake The Major's Mask. In the latest episode of his Partida Zero podcast, Nintendo insider Nash Weedle claimed that the revised version Princess Twilight may also be coming to Switch 2, and given his track record, there's a good chance he's right. The main thing that is up in the air right now is what this “revised version” is about Princess Twilight would entail, and whether it's a Wii U port remaster for Switch 2 or a full-on remake.
More than likely, it's just a remaster, given that Ocarina of Time the remake is now officially on the way and has likely absorbed Nintendo's attention in the remake department. However, if the rumors turn out to be true and it turns out to be a remake, I'm not sure how I'd feel about it. don't get me wrong Princess Twilight is fantastic Zelda game and I'd like to go back to it on modern hardware but if we're going to remake Ocarina of Timethe logical next step would be its recognized sequel, The Major's Mask– and I'm not just saying that because I like the game.

The Legend of Zelda has two more huge releases this year and I can't wait
The Legend of Zelda has been all the rage lately, but there are still two big releases left in 2026 that I'm really looking forward to.
Majora's Mask needs a remake more than Twilight Princess
One of my favorite, not-so-favorite arguments about whether an already remastered game should get a remake is “It's already been remade”. People were talking about it Ocarina of Time when it was re-released on the 3DS, and they talked about it Major's Mask 3D also. I understand that it's technically called a remake, but a real remake – to me – is a complete reimagining of a classic game with fresh mechanics, a reworked narrative, new gameplay opportunities and more that set it apart from the original on a much less fundamental level than visuals and polish.
Place the consoles in the correct order.
Start
A true remake needs to make it clear that this is the game everyone remembers without being the game everyone remembers. On that note, both Ocarina of Time 3D and Major's Mask 3D they were almost exactly as I remembered them in their classic form, so they don't count as remakes in my book. And while we don't yet know how much Nintendo has remade Ocarina of Timethe trailer itself looks like it will be a new experience that will be unfamiliar in some ways even to veteran fans.
Princess Twilight is fantastic Zelda game and I'd like to go back to it on modern hardware but if we're going to remake Ocarina of Timethe logical next step would be its acclaimed sequel…
it all said The Major's Mask still needs a remake even though its 3DS version claimed the title almost a decade ago, and it needs a remake more than Princess Twilight. I would even go as far as to say it The Major's Mask needs a remaster, at the very least, more than Princess Twilight. If The Major's Mask it only received a visual fix that took full advantage of the Switch 2, I'd pick it Princess Twilight without hesitation, simply because I believe it's still the better game between the two.
The only objection that could cause me to lose points in this argument is fact The Major's Mask can currently be played natively on the Nintendo Switch 2 via the N64 library but Princess Twilight can't However, it should be noted that the version The Major's Mask which is currently available on Switch 2 is the original version, not the enhanced 3D version. In other words, yes, you can play The Major's Mask right now, but the version you can play looks a lot worse than Princess Twilight in its most current state.
Twilight Princess is a more modern game that makes Majora's Mask perfect for a remake
it's about Princess Twilight does not suffer from the same problem The Major's Mask yes, and that's another big reason why the latter deserves a remake over the former. Even in its original form, Princess Twilight it's still fairly easy to play and understand by modern standards because it's so late Zelda design. Its world is bigger, its storytelling is more cinematic, its combat is more expressive, and its art direction has aged extremely well, to the point where I believe it still looks fantastic for a 20-year-old game. The Major's Maskon the other hand, it still carries the limitations of the N64 on its back, and while that's certainly part of its charm, it also does Zelda a game that would most benefit from a complete overhaul from the ground up.
More importantly, The Major's Mask is the kind of game that a remake could really transform without losing what made it special. Its three-day cycle, mask and transformation mechanics, side quests, NPC routines, dungeons, and a doomed version of Terminus are all already great ideas, but they're also ideas that modern hardware could take to a level the N64 never could. Princess Twilight Of course it would look incredible on the Switch 2 and I'd be happy to pick it up if Nintendo was planning it. But The Major's Mask is Zelda the game with the most untapped remake potential and then Ocarina of Timeit's like the one Nintendo should go after first.
Majora's Mask is the obvious next step after Ocarina of Time
And that's probably the biggest argument I can make here – if we're going to remodel, that is Ocarina of Timeit would make sense to just go ahead and remake its sequel as well. The Major's Mask is a direct continuation of the Hero of Time story, which means Nintendo would already have the perfect foundation to give Switch 2 owners a complete version of this era. Remodeling Ocarina of Time and then skip straight away Princess Twilight It would feel like I had read the first half of a book, closed it before the next half chapter, and then pulled a completely different book off the shelves.
Princess Twilight it totally deserves its time on the Switch 2, and if Nintendo really is working on a remastered version, I won't pretend I'm not excited to play it. But if Nintendo opens the door wide Zelda remakes with Ocarina of Time, The Major's Mask should probably be next in line. It needs more help, has more untapped remake potential, and makes the most sense as the next step in what Nintendo has already started. Princess Twilight can wait a bit longer as Termina deserves her turn first.
