The Elder Scrolls 6 will be released before 2030, but not much sooner, according to a recent reliable industry insider. If that's the case, then it's worth noting that it would have been released almost 20 years after Skyrim and ~12 years since the first announcement in 2018. In other words, in the eyes of many fans, The Elder Scrolls 6 will go down in history as the most anticipated and longest running game from reveal to release.
It is important to understand the broader context surrounding this statement. Xbox just announced plans to “reset” the business, including layoffs, studio sales, and more. Xbox also expects Bethesda to continue to focus on its IP and release games in the The Elder Scrolls and Fallout franchise faster than before (and it's worth noting that Bethesda has also been hit with the aforementioned layoffs, making it even more challenging). Even then, realistically, there is a long wait for the fans.
During a recent Bloomberg Q&A, reporter Jason Schreier discussed a potential release date The Elder Scrolls 6. In short, an industry insider said the release is “at least 2 to 3 years away.” The good news is that a recent update to the The Elder Scrolls 6 revealed that almost all of Bethesda's developers are working on the game, which isn't surprising at this point. That would put its release date around 2028 or 2029, and it looks like Xbox will be pushing for it to be completed at the faster end of that production pipeline.

Notably, Schreier is not the only insider to make this claim recently. Windows Central's Jez Corden also claimed to have heard it earlier this year The Elder Scrolls 6 it will be released around 2028 or 2029, a year or two after the first one Fallout remaster. In other words, fans can hopefully expect something new Fallout remaster next year as well, ahead of any brand new mainline releases in the franchise. Of course, development is complicated and things change quickly in the industry and in life, so it wouldn't be surprising to hear new claims, news and/or announcements about the next game in the franchise in 2027, 2028 or 2029.
After all, Todd Howard seems to regret making the announcement The Elder Scrolls 6— at least as Bethesda did with the landscape trailer. He recently joked that fans forget the studio ever did this, and suggested he wished the company would be more casual with its announcements. Likewise another Bethesda game after The Elder Scrolls 6 is Fallout 5, and Howard lightly acknowledged it every now and then without the fans having any serious expectations. He probably means more casual.

Either way, 2-3 years shouldn't come as a surprise to fans who have waited so long and kept up with the latest news from Bethesda. It remains to be seen how this will pan out for the company as a whole, as well as how Xbox and its sold/current studios will fare, but we hope the chaos and pressure on the industry ends much sooner rather than later.
