Fighting games are known for fast-paced combat where players compete to see who comes out on top. Combine combos and special moves to eat away at your opponent's health while winning in style. However, many forget that attack is only half the battle, and in order not to be defeated quickly, you must learn to defend.

Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero – How to teleport behind enemies
Different moves in Sparking Zero allow you to teleport behind an enemy, such as Instant Transfer or Vanishing Assault. Learn more about them here!
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is a good example of this. With all the different attacks, it's important to learn how to block and counter. This guide will go over each counter as well as when and how to use them.
How to use the perception counter
The perception counter is the easiest of the counters to learn. By simply pressing and holding the Perception button, you will resist any melee attack that connects with you. This counter is extremely useful when you block an enemy's quick attack to stop them and get back to a neutral position.
Holding down the perception button slowly drains the Ki gauge.
Super Perception can be performed while holding the Perception button against an enemy's Smash Attack. Successfully reversing a Smash Attack will cost you one Skill Point and knock the opponent back.
Perception cannot be used against basic Ki blasts or when you are just being hit by melee attacks.
How to use the revenge counter
The revenge counter is a bit more advanced. Unlike the Perception counter, the Revenge counter costs two Skill Points and can use only when damaged from melee attacks and Ki. Press the assigned button after being hit by an attack to perform a revenge counter.
While Revenge Counter is a great tool to prevent damage, it is not 100% failsafe. A perceptive player or opponent does you will hear a chime when Revenge is executed. Pressing and holding the Perception button will occur Revenge counter and send the opponent away.
Pay close attention to your and your opponent's skill points to see if you or they use a revenge counter.
How to use Super Counter
Super Counter is the hardest but most rewarding of all tokens in the game. Move forward and press Right attack button when an enemy melee attack lands to start the Super Counter. Super Counter requires no funds, which makes it one of the most important counters to the master.
Super Counter cannot counter Ki attacks. However that can counter all melee attacks.
As mentioned, Super Counter is quite difficult to use, mainly due to the animations of many characters. The best way to practice is to jump into training mode and set your opponent's AI strategy to Rush Attacks. As they attack you, listen to the sound of each hit as it lands and memorize the pattern before performing a counter.
Instead of trying to Super Counter (Forward + Attack Button) at the same time, you can always hold forward and press the Attack button at the right time.
