Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater producer Noriaki Okamura commented on the upcoming remake that the developers wanted it to feel faithful but not “old” when played. Coming Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is the second major remake that Konami is working on after the recently released one Silent Hill 2 remake. As such, there is a lot of hype around it.
Despite the amount of apprehension from fans going into these projects, Silent Hill 2 the remake was a major success, selling over a million copies in its first three days and receiving very favorable reviews from critics. In the Play 46 release (courtesy of GamesRadar), Metal Gear Solid Delta the producer shared that the studio is trying to evoke memories of the original, but make sure it doesn't play or feel like a 20-year-old game that needs to find a balance between nostalgia and modern comfort. Okamura noted that the developer believed the graphics upgrade to Snake Eater was all that was needed at first, but then the team noticed that these new, modern visuals didn't mesh well with some of the elements. Specifically, he notes that upgrading the graphics can end up compromising the feel of the original game. Okamura wants players to feel that even though the graphics are new, they are still the same Snake Eater which fans remember from 20 years ago. “Our whole goal in creating this remake is to make sure it still looks like the game you played 20 years ago, but without it looking like an old game,” Okamura explains.
Another area Okamura wanted to update was Snake Eater's, with the game featuring a “new-type” control scheme that makes it more in line with recent installments in the series. However, Delta it will also feature the classic control layout for fans who still want to use it.
