Plastic is an incredibly useful material Fallout 76. Used to craft CAMP items, armor and weapon mods, ammo and more. It is one of those resources that can be found almost everywhere. However, despite being relatively easy to obtain, players don't seem to be able to collect enough plastic to build everything they need to build.

There are over 60 different items in the game that can be decomposed into plastic. Many pieces of armor and weapons can also be scrapped for a handful of base materials, including plastic. To get lots of armor pieces and weapons for scrapping, simply head to any place with lots of human enemies. Most human enemies drop pieces of armor or weapons when killed. Not only is this a good way to get plastic, but it's also pretty good for getting XP.
The best places to farm plastic
There are plenty of great places to grow plastic. However, there are three places that tend to be more lucrative for growing large amounts of plastic. The first of these is Watoga High School. This place is full of all sorts of items that contain plastic. Head to the dining room and pick up all the plastic cutlery you find on the tables. You can also find things like plastic pumpkins, salt shakers and more. It's not uncommon for players to walk away with several hundred pieces of plastic. This location is also perfect for those who want to reset the server. Resetting the server will respawn a lot of items that can be found scattered around the wasteland. To do this, you need to pick up a lot of items, then scrap everything and jump to a new server.
The second place to visit is Whitespring. This place is spread over a very large area and there is plastic everywhere. The buildings next to the resort have a lot of great junk inside. This includes a lot of items that contain plastic. Whitespring Golf Club has several pool tables upstairs that have lots of pool balls, each containing plastic. You can also head to the Whitespring Mall and loot everything you see for more plastic.
The last place worth visiting when it comes to growing plastic is Morgantown High School. Similar to Watoga High School, this place has a lot of plastic cutlery. It also has a lot of other junk items, making it a great all-rounder for scrap farming.
Passively generate plastic
There are plenty of CAMP sources that produce plastic over time. Not only that, but if you place your CAMP over a pile of junk, you can place a garbage collector on top of it. This creates all sorts of junk, many of which contain plastic. Some of the best places that have a pile of junk can be seen below:
- Northwest Of Sunshine Meadows Industrial Farm
- North Of Aaronholt Homestead
- North Of Berkley Springs
- North of Harper's Ferry
When it comes to CAMP items that generate plastic, there are quite a few resource generators worth investing in. The first is the game cabinet. This item usually costs 700 atoms to purchase. Although quite an expensive item, it creates pre-war board games. Some board games contain plastic. They also contain a variety of other junk items such as antiseptic, bone and even nuclear material.
Motorized butter is a great source of CAMP. Unlike the Games Cupboard, the Motorized Butter Churn can be purchased or traded between players, meaning you won't need to hand over any items to unlock the ability to craft this item. It produces cooking oil over time. Cooking oil can be broken down into oil and plastic.
There are also plenty of collecting stations that players can build in their CAMPs. While some of them cost atoms, others can be obtained for free during limited time events. You can also purchase some with Gold Bullion. Samuel, the Gold Bullion Foundation merchant, will have most of the CAMP collectors in his inventory. However, Minerva may have some for sale at a discount from time to time.
The items you get from the CAMP Collector will depend on what type of collector you built. You can see the ones that make items that contain plastic below:
- Silver Collectron Station
- Scavenger Collectron Station
- Santatron Collectron Station
- Red Rocket Collectron Station
- Lumberjack collection station
- Junkyard Dog Collector Station
- FETCH collection station
- Communist collecting station
- BOS Collectron Station
- Red Rocket Dumpster Collector
Buy plastics from NPC vendors and players
One quick way to get plastic is to visit NPC vendors. Although you will need a lot of Caps, it will save you a lot of time compared to visiting and looting different places on the map. The best place to visit is Whitespring Mall. This place has vendors all around, many of whom will sell items that contain plastic. Some of the merchants will also sell Bulk Plastic.

Fallout 76: The most important junk components
The components that players obtain by scavenging junk in Fallout 76 are key to everything from base building to weapon and armor repairs.
If you still have some extra Caps to spend after clearing NPC Vendors, you can jump to a new server as this will restore the items they have in their inventory. Some players may also sell plastics from time to time. It's worth looking at player CAMPs in the world activities menu to see if anyone is selling junk. If a player sells a lot of junk, there's a chance they could sell some plastic for a reasonable price.
Basic use of plastics
Plastic has many uses. It is an essential part of many weapons, both melee and ranged. There are many in-game armor sets and Power Armor pieces to craft. Plastic is needed to produce bulk waste. Junk items are usually bulked up so they can either be sold to NPC vendors, sold to other players, or stored in the player's stash.
But mostly players need plastic to craft certain types. Plastic is needed to make fusion cells. Fusion Cells are among the most commonly used ammo types in the game. It is not uncommon for players to go through thousands of Fusion Cells during a game. While the cost can be reduced by using different magazines and perks, if you burn through Fusion Cells quickly, you'll find yourself needing plastic all the time.
Another major use of plastic is the production of CAMP items. Players love coming up with creative CAMP builds, especially since the Best Build feature was released. Building a CAMP costs a lot of resources, plastic being one of the biggest. Plastic is needed to craft many CAMP items for floors and walls. From Jack O'Lantern to some writing on the wall. Since a CAMP would look pretty bare without any decorations, players will use a lot of plastic to make their CAMPs feel more “lived in” and full. Decorating your CAMP with as many display items as possible is also a great way to show off some of your more unique plans to other players.
