With just over a week until Sonic 3 hits theaters, Sega and Paramount have kicked off the promotion for the threequel. This included 12 hours of Sonic-themed giveaways over the course of Wednesday afternoon and evening, with prizes up for grabs including plushies, t-shirts and a very ugly Christmas jumper to remind us how far we've come.

Wearing a Christmas-themed sweater that isn't aesthetically pleasing has become a holiday tradition, but I can't imagine you'll ever see one as ugly as this one. The aptly named Ugly Sonic Sweater, included in Paramount's promotional giveaways, was an original design sweater for the film version of the Blue Blur.

For those who have forgotten about the Ugly Sonic saga and if your brain has deliberately erased it from your memory, you are in luck that ahead of the hedgehog's big screen debut, a trailer has revealed to the world what CGI Sonic would look like in live action. Simply put, it was terrible. So terrible and the reaction to it so vociferous that Paramount delayed the release of the movie so Sonic's design could be reworked, the end result was much more palatable because he actually looks like Sonic.

Five years later, it's nice to see that Paramount can poke fun at themselves and the Sonic design that nearly derailed the adaptation before it was even released. The reveal of the sweater even features footage from the original version of the film, which feels like an unwelcome reminder that the OG design for Sonic's hands was almost as bad as his face. The reveal of the sweater was paired with Donut Lord seeing Sonic for the first time, yelling before shooting the original design with a tranquilizer dart.

As for the sweater, it's not just a big old picture of Sonic's face from the original movie that makes it ugly. The color scheme and the inclusion of what looks like an Ugly Sonic, stretchy silhouettes really add to this being one of the baddest holiday sweaters ever created.

Even before the trailer was released in 2019, glimpses of Sonic's legs had fans fearing the worst, as a sneak peek suggested that Paramount had made the hedgehog look too human.

Unfortunately, if you're just learning about the existence of this jumper, you've already missed your chance to win it.
