Even without Newton's cookbook, BO6 Zombies' Gobblegum might be better

While Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies has had some big ups and downs in season 1, such as the release of Citadelle Des Morts and the brief removal of camo farming in Directed mode, the mode remains very strong overall. in many ways Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies is exactly what players have been asking for after several years of controversial changes, as their round maps offer strong survival gameplay and plenty of lanes to find. The game also feels like a marriage between modern innovations Black Ops Cold War and beloved Black Ops 3 thanks to returning features like the Gobblegum, though that's the one aspect of the game that can be improved.

To be clear, the implementation of Gobblegum v Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombie is solid. Players can hold three gumballs at once, pick up a free gumball each round, and every 8-10 rounds have a chance to get any gumball in the game at random. Small post-launch touches have also added some polish to the system, from cleaning up the Gobblegum section of the HUD to players appearing with the first three rubbers in their deck. IN Black Ops 6Gobblegums feel powerful but not overpowering, and can be earned continuously without requiring players to spend COD points. However, getting exactly the kind of Gobblegums players want is less straightforward, which is why it's a shame there's no Newton's Cookbook. Black Ops 6. Still, an alternative could fill the void the cookbook provided.

January 28 is going to be a big day for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 fans

Call of Duty players will want to mark January 28th on their calendars as Treyarch confirms something big for Black Ops 6 and Warzone.

What was Newton's cookbook in Black Ops 3?

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3The Newton's Cookbook feature essentially allowed players to trade some of their gum for other, more desirable ones. For example, if players had a lot of Killing Time and Temporal Gift gummies, but none of the game-changing Perkaholics, they could trade a few of them for one of them, allowing them to get exactly what they want. The three recipes on offer changed daily, giving players a reason to log in each day and giving meaning to even their least favorite Gobblegums. When a particularly good recipe came along, it felt like an event Call of Duty Zombie fans jump at the chance to collect as many rare gummies as possible.

Unfortunately, it seems unlikely that Newton's cookbook will return Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 for the sole reason that Gobblegums are the main way Zombies mode is monetized. Players can purchase gum packs with COD points, and the gum will appear in Battle Passes, Paid Packs, and Prestige progressions. Adding Newton's Cookbook would discourage players from buying Gobblegum packs as they could simply pound out random gummies and trade them for the ones they want when the right recipe comes along. Activision would likely be opposed to bringing Newton's Cookbook back because of this, as it could cut off a revenue stream, so improving Gobblegum would require a different approach.

As more Gobblegums become available, it will only become more difficult to get the ones players want, as each rarity will be expanded with additional potential drops.

How could Black Ops 6 improve on Gobblegum without Newton's cookbook?

While Newton's cookbook returns Black Ops 6 Zombies may be a dream, there are other ways Treyarch can make it easier for players to get the gummies they're looking for without spending real money or hoping for good RNG. These options include:

  • Chewing gum trading: Perhaps the simplest solution is to allow players to share their Gobblegum with their friends, just as they would with a mystery box weapon. Defeating the machine after spitting out the gum could allow other players to collect it.
  • Gobblegum spins: Something like Dr. Factory Monty would be great to see Black Ops 6. Although it would likely be monetized through paid spins, with only one free spin per day, it would be beneficial to allow players another way to earn gum.
  • Gobblegum Rewards: Treating Gobblegum as a reward could be an interesting opportunity for Treyarch. Like Call of Duty: Warzoneplayers could be awarded medals based on their performance in a match, with gum tied to each medal. For example, most door purchases could provide gummies like Wall-to-Wall Clearance to save generous players money for future runs, while most revives could provide items like Phoenix Up and Nowhere But There.

Regardless of which way it ends up going, it would be great to see Treyarch improve on their existing Gobblegum system. While Gobblegum is hardly mandatory and can be earned often enough that the current format isn't considered pay-to-win, it's just too tedious for players to get the exact gum they're looking for at the moment. This can be especially frustrating since certain gummies are required for things like camouflage challenges, so hopefully the next expansion Black Ops 6Gobblegum is in the plan.
