Marvel Rivals Season 1 is in full swing, drawing players into the super-powered team-based shooter to explore its expansive roster of 35 heroes. As the character roster continues to grow, The Thing and The Human Torch are set to arrive later in the season, Marvel Rivals players are probably curious to test different team compositions. With an already extensive lineup of six-player heroes and teams, players have no shortage of ideas to explore.
Some players can play Marvel Rivals' the most meta heroes in Competitive. However, Quickplay is the perfect place to queue up with friends and try out new characters. When testing viable team compositions, fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and comics may wonder if a composition like the Guardians of the Galaxy could find success in this game.

Are the Guardians of the Galaxy a viable team composition in Marvel Rivals?
The composition of Guardians of the Galaxy has a major flaw
While more unorthodox team formations can find success, such as an all strategist team in Marvel RivalsGuardians of the Galaxy faces an obvious disadvantage from the start. The third-person shooter consists of teams of six. There are only five heroes in Season 1 that can be considered part of or closely related to the Guardians of the Galaxy MCU:
-
Adam Warlock
-
Groot
-
Praying mantis
-
Rocket Raccoon
-
Star-Lord
This track contains three strategists, one Vanguard and one Duelist. Unfortunately, while the composition of the MCU Avengers v Marvel Rivals struggles due to a lack of healers, the Guardians of the Galaxy have a surplus of healers and lack a sixth teammate. There are of course positives to trying this build; the Team-Up ability “Guardian Revival” greatly increases survivability. Adam Warlock can grant the power of rebirth to Star-Lord and Mantis, allowing them to revive after being knocked out. Groot and Rocket Raccoon also benefit from a Team-Up skill called “Planet X Pals”, which allows Rocket to ride on Groot's shoulders while gaining damage reduction.
Playtesting The Guardians of the Galaxy Composition
While it is not recommended for players to do so due to potential in-game penalties, for authenticity this playtest required his sixth teammate to sit AFK in the spawn room. At the same time, the members of the Guardians of the Galaxy tried to secure the win. If players wanted to give themselves some leeway by adding a second Vanguard hero, they could consider Thor an honorary member. It is based on his brief stint with the Guardians v Avengers: Endgame and Thor: Love and Thunder.
Out of three games, in matches that were always 5v6, this composition managed to win twice, which makes its success rate a surprising 66.67%. The first loss was likely a direct result of being outnumbered while playing defense on Yggsgard Yggdrasil Path. While there were enough heals to keep Groot up, along with a beacon for respawn and “Revive Guardians” to bring back more than half the team, the lack of a second Vanguard or Duelist was noticeable.
The first win may not have been real because it happened in Practice vs. AI. However, members playing this track proved it was possible, leading to a second win in a real Quickplay match. This game was heavily in favor of the Guardians of the Galaxy, as they were playing on the attacker's side of Midtown, Marvel RivalsLatest convoy map. A huge factor in gaining traction with this build is playing pretty aggressively as Groot. Adam Warlock and Mantis should then do their best to fulfill the role of the second Duelist, although healing their teammates is still critical.
Overall, the MCU Guardians of the Galaxy team may not be the best choice in the game, but it's a solid roster of heroes, especially if players choose to add Thor as their sixth member. It's not an unwinnable matchup even in 5v6, but it won't be easy. It's worth noting that this composition probably wouldn't sustain a high win rate in Competitive, but it's worth trying out with friends in Quickplay.
