There are currently two ways to play Dark Urge in Baldur's Gate 3; you can either buy him off or succumb to his bloodlust. If you choose to play as Tava or one of the original characters, you will only encounter Durge's corpse in the Bhaal Temple. Wouldn't it be interesting if you could have him as a companion?
Sure, the nights at camp would be a little awkward with a compulsive killer in your party, but he'd be a great addition if you're a chaos type. Luckily, it looks like you'll soon be able to add him to your party thanks to a fan. The Recruit the Dark Urge mod is currently in development, but you can preview the first act right now.
Dark Urge joins the party
Recruit the Dark Urge is made by HyperspaceTowel, the same developer behind the massive content recovery mod for Baldur's Gate 3. It looks like they've taken their file extraction skills and applied them in a way that makes Dark Urge recruitable if you're playing as Tav or any other supporting character.
The sneak peek features the first confrontation scene after Durge brutalizes Alfira at the camp. Normally you would only see this scene if you were playing as Dark Urge, but this mod gives you an outside view as Tav and allows you to converse with Durg as if he were any other companion in the game.
HyperspaceTowel mentioned that planned features include making Durge recruitable and allowing him to level up like the others, and adding companion versions for his main stages. There will also be more voiced lines “derived from the actor's existing/deleted lines”.
Explaining how more dialogue will be added, the modder said: “There's not enough for a fully fleshed out companion like the ones we have in the vanilla game, but I'll do the best I can with what I have: Durge is voiced by CC Voice 5, so that's where I'm getting my lines from. There are also hundreds of Early Access lines that didn't make it into the game.”
