A new Sims 4 feature was accidentally leaked by the developers

Maxis accidentally leaked a new one The Sims 4 feature called SimSearch. The prematurely revealed feature appears to be a new addition to the game's gallery to improve how The Sims 4 players discover community creations.

The Sims 4's Gallery has been part of the game since January 2020, just over five years after EA launched its web version. Designed as a one-stop hub for players to upload and download game creations – from characters and rooms to houses and entire plots – it allows users to share content without relying on mods. Over time, as new features were introduced and content was accumulated, recurring issues began to appear, prompting complaints from players. Some are now calling for a total reconstruction of the Gallery.

Maxis may soon start responding to these complaints by introducing a new feature called SimSearch. The developer briefly mentioned the feature in a recent Instagram story and said it was already in beta before quickly deleting the post. However, a screenshot of the notification was captured and posted to the Sims community. According to the German-language patch notes issued shortly before the now-deleted post, the feature was supposed to launch on November 4 The Sims 4 update. The changelog has since been amended to remove all references to SimSearch, suggesting a last-minute delay.

SimSearch can support at least 2 modes

The revised German patch notes list two SimSearch modes: text-to-image and cross-language search, both described as being in experimental beta. Text-to-image will use visual search—likely using neural networks—to find Gallery screenshots that match the user's query. Initially, search queries will be limited to single keywords, although this restriction is planned to be lifted in future updates. Cross-language search will allow players to use their native language to discover content, greatly improving accessibility. Together, both modes aim to improve the experience of searching for high-quality results The Sims 4User gallery.

  • Multilingual (beta): Ideal for international Simmers. In addition to searching for specific object names, hashtags, and descriptions, you can now also search in your own language and still see the same search results.
  • Convert Text to Image (Beta): Will be used for individual keywords initially. This search searches the gallery for matching images based on your search term. This powerful search opens up new areas of the gallery that you may not have encountered before.

A more powerful and accessible search function would be a potentially significant addition to the gallery, which fans have long requested improvements from EA. More broadly, the leaked feature is in line with EA's ongoing efforts to “overpay” The Sims Hub and its other user-generated AI content platforms, a commitment the company made publicly in September 2024.

Although SimSearch appears to have been pulled from the November 4th patch at the last minute, the fact that it was there from the beginning suggests that it will likely be introduced soon. As with other changes found in Maxis' so-called “Laundry List” updates, SimSearch should be a free addition to The Sims 4.
