AND Pokemon fan artist gave the evolutionary Poliwag line a redesign with impressive results. A unique concept PokemonThe classic water-type family has won fans.
Poliwag's bloodline is one of the original evolutionary lines that existed in the Gen 1 games Pokemon red and blue. However, it also helped introduce the notion of branched evolution Pokemonsince Politoed was introduced in Gen 2 as a potential final evolution for Pokemon. The Poliwag evolution series hasn't received much attention or major redesigns since then from Game Freak, but this fan gives an idea of what it might have looked like if its creation had gone a little differently.
Pokemon fan and necrovvi artist has shared his latest reimagining of the Pokemon evolution line, this time with Poliwag in mind. Poliwag shrunk and gained large pink spots on his cheeks, losing most of the vortex on his belly. At this stage, she slightly resembles Marill. Once he evolves into Poliwhirl, the swirl becomes much more prominent and leaves pink marks on his cheeks while gaining the gauntleted hands that Poliwhirl normally has. From there, Poliwhirl will evolve into either Politoed or Poliwrath. Poliwrath has grown in size and has a more frog-like design, standing upright on two legs and gaining more rings on its body. Finally, the Politoed has more prominent feet, lets them stand tilted forward, and has a flared tongue. Each of the Pokemon also received a shiny variant, with the first three changing to orange and blue and Politoed to pink and blue.
Poliwag fans react to the redesign
Numerous fans Pokemon series responded to the redesign in the comments to the post. Most players seem to like the redesigns a lot, especially since they better differentiate Poliwhirl and Poliwrath, who originally looked pretty much the same. Some have also noted that the rugged Poliwrath does a better job of looking like a fighting type, with more muscular development. In general, players seem to like that Pokémon redesigns keep the beliefs that are so recognizable in the original version while reshaping much of the design into something new.
Poliwag is one of the Pokemon that is largely on the sidelines Pokemon series over the years. Almost a quarter of a century has passed since then Pokemon Gold and Silver released, after which the four Pokémon didn't see much change at all. It would be interesting to see them get Mega Evolution Pokemon Legends: ZAbut for now, fan suggestions like this will help keep the Pokemon family in the minds of players.
