The biggest change is that Activision said it “will no longer release sequels to Modern Warfare or Black Ops.” While the statement claimed there were many reasons behind the change, Activision stressed the importance of providing players with an “absolutely unique” experience each year. It's clear that many players are unhappy with the stream Black Ops 7 experience because the title currently has the lowest user score in Call of Dutyhistory on review aggregator Metacritic.

Since there is a new entry every year, it makes sense that not everyone Call of Duty title can be a breakthrough achievement as it is difficult to achieve such a high benchmark every 12 months. Edition Black Ops 7 it's also not the first time Activision has launched two games within the same sub-series back to back Call of Duty players may remember that the second and third Modern warfare titles were released in 2022 and 2023. Prior to that, Activision rotated regularly Call of Duty experienced players could play every year. Each of these titles delivered a distinctly different experience, perhaps helping the community avoid some of the fatigue that can come with annual releases. It also means that players who didn't care about a particular series could also skip a year, knowing that the following year would likely offer something different. A return to this model could prove beneficial for both Activision and its players.
