After just a month, Fortnite is once again using animations for expensive $10-$15 sidekicks

Fortnite was criticized by some players for reusing the animations of its expensive Sidekick cosmetic. Sidekicks were introduced Fortnite November 1st, while the new feature has the potential to be a charming addition to the Battle Royale title, it's also been somewhat controversial right out of the gate.

Fortnite's Sidekicks are adorable companions that will accompany players during matches, but there are a few catches that have prevented many players from embracing the new cosmetics. For starters, while Sidekicks are customizable, whatever appearance the player chooses for the companion remains permanent. Players can still change the Sidekick's name and accessories, but the appearance remains locked. Sidekicks aren't cheap either, costing between 1,200 and 1,500 V-Bucks, or around $10-$15. Despite the novelty of Sidekicks, Epic Games is already revamping the animations and some players are not happy with it.

Fortnite Sidekicks Leak Teases Future Disney Character Crossovers

A recent leak about Disney's take on Fortnite sidekicks is causing speculation about crossover possibilities for the fan-favorite characters.

Fortnite's Sidekicks use recycled animations

Reddit user carno_101 recently shared a video of the two side by side Fortnite Sidekicks performing the same moves. Cuddle Team Jr. and The Simpsons The crossover offering, Itchy, is two Sidekicks compared, and it's clear that they do indeed have the same animation. The main issue players have with this is the cost of Sidekicks. For items that cost between $10 and $15, many would prefer that each Sidekick felt like more time and effort was put into the animations, so it could justify the price a bit more.

Not everyone Fortnite but the player feels that way. On the other hand, there are some fans who don't really mind the recycled animation that much, arguing that Sidekick's movement isn't the teammate's real selling point in the game. While many have agreed that Sidekicks are overpriced, one of the arguments against re-used animation is that it just doesn't make sense to create a unique moveset for each of them, as it would take a lot of developer time.

It is ultimately up to the player to decide if the Sidekick is overpriced or not. Despite the price debates, plenty of fans have gotten their own Battle Royale companion. There are even more Sidekicks on the way and it will be interesting to see if they use the same animations. For players who aren't interested in Sidekicks, the recycled animations are another reason not to buy them. However, for those who like the cosmetic type, this is unlikely to deter them from adding Sidekicks to their wardrobe.
