This post contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen.
The Jujutsu Kaisen the anime returned for its third season a few weeks ago, and as expected, it turned out to be another phenomenal MAPPA project. It's pretty clear at this point that the studio can do no wrong and everything they touch will turn to gold.
Jujutsu Kaisen: Why Season 3 Will Have the Biggest Fights Yet
How is Jujutsu Kaisen trying to be bigger than the Shibuya incident? Of course, there is only a huge battle royale going on all over the country.
Jujutsu Kaisen fans are certainly grateful to MAPPA for maintaining the quality, especially when adapting the Culling Game arc. In the first three episodes, the Culling game has been mentioned several times by various characters, but what is it really about?
What is the Culling Game in Jujutsu Kaisen?
Kenjaku plans to use Culling to evolve humans

Tengen revealed all the rules of the Culling Game

Kenjaku uses Culling to achieve his goal
The Culling Game may seem like a competition on the surface, but the reality is dramatically different. For centuries, Kenjaku has been trying to come up with ideas on how to evolve humanity, but he either hit a dead end or was stopped by someone else. According to Tengen, Kenjaku was stopped twice by the person possessing the Six Eyes. This led to Kenjaku killing another Six Eyes user along with the Star Plasma Canister. Unfortunately for him, a new vessel and a new user were born at the time of Tengen's assimilation.
After Kenjaku failed again, he had to change his approach and therefore decided to seal away the Six Eyes user as two people cannot have this ability at the same time. Kenjaku was also lucky when Toji Fushiguro killed the star plasma vessel, breaking the chains of fate binding her to Tengen and Gojo Satoru. Afterwards, Kenjaku began searching for the Prison Realm to seal away Gojo Satoru, eventually succeeding in the Shibuya Incident arc. With no one standing up to him, the ancient wizard could do as he pleased.
Culling must be stopped at all costs
As said before, Kenjaku desires to forcibly evolve the people of Japan and needs Tengen to do so. He wants to pit wizards and non-wizards against each other to optimize their cursed energy and reach a new level. The Culling Game is the perfect stage for his plan, and it's safe to say that the spellcaster can truly get what he wants. If this were to happen, thousands and possibly millions of people could end up dead. To stop Kenjaku, Itadori Yuji and his friends must participate in the Culling Game and beat the ancient wizard at his own game.
Rules of the Killing Game in Jujutsu Kaisen
The Culling Game has eight rules that every competitor in the competition must follow.
-
Anyone who has awakened their cursed tech must report their presence within 19 days to a colony of their choice.
-
Any individual who violates the first rule will lose their cursed technique. Tengen confirmed that it would result in a person's death. Players who have no Cursed Tech will not die based on this rule.
-
Non-players who enter a colony become players. This will be seen as an indication of their willingness to participate. However, people who are already inside the barrier will be given the option to leave once.
-
The only way to get points is by killing other players.
-
Each player is assigned players depending on their skill by the game master. To ease confusion, each wizard's life is worth 5 points, while a non-wizard's life is worth 1 point. Cursed spirits are also worth 5 points.
-
Players who get 100 points can ask the game master to add any new rule, provided it does not interfere with Culling. A player's point value also does not count towards their accumulated points. Furthermore, the player cannot ask for the subtraction of the previous ruler.
-
Any new rule must be added by the Game Master as long as it does not adversely affect Culling play.
-
If a player's score does not change for 19 days, then their cursed technique will be removed, meaning they will die.
Since the Culling Game is not in full swing, no new rules have been adopted, but that will change in the upcoming episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen. The heroes have been divided into several teams, with Itadori and Yuta already on their way to participate in the Culling Game and rescue Gojo Satoru. They know that time is short and they must hurry or risk watching many people die.
