Revealing trailers and build-ups for video game releases can be difficult for developers to communicate their product to players around the world, and players often make it clear that they are not happy or willing to try new games that are on the way. While this is troubling, the developer can only hope that their game will find an audience that can appreciate what their talented team has created, and as is the case with this selection of games, they've managed to exceed expectations. We've found some amazing games that fans can agree are great, but received a pretty bad reception before release.

T for Teen – Diverse Content: Discretion, In-Game Purchases, User Interaction
Fortnite was announced back in 2011 and was a follow-up to the (at the time) fresh concept of co-op survival adventures where players had to band together and defend their homestead from hordes of the undead. The concept Fortnite it looked generic enough and it was accepted among players that it would be another forgotten survival game like all the others. That was until Fortnite dared to reinvent itself and gave players a Battle Royale experience that wasn't even intended to be a mainstream experience. FortniteThe Battle Royale mode became so popular that the survival aspects were changed to Save the World, and now everyone knows it Fortnite as a cultural footprint on the gaming scene. Constantly evolving as a live Battle Royale service with new chapters, seasons, metas and co-ops, Fortnite is a staple of the gaming industry, and perhaps no one could have guessed in 2011 that this 2017 release would reshape gaming.

When Konami revealed that Bloober Team would be remaking one of the greatest games of all time, Silent Hill 2some fans weren't exactly thrilled with the idea, regardless of which development team was at the helm. Silent Hill 2 it is so highly rated for many reasons. From the perfect mix of horror, symbolism, monsters, puzzles and more, the remake seemed to take away Silent Hill 2Perfection by adding unnecessary combat changes, different story threads and more to tarnish the legacy. How wrong they were, because Bloober Team proved just how incredible remakes can be Silent Hill 2 (2024) kept the vision of the original intact while allowing the modern gamer to feel immersed in its story. There is so much to love about both versions and Silent Hill 2 he was a proud success that ushered in a new beginning for the future Silent Hill installments and remodeling.

When James Gunn introduced audiences around the world Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014, no one could have predicted the icons these Marvel characters would become. That was until Disney started throwing them all over the place to the point where people were getting pretty tired of seeing them. A group of sci-fi a-holes dealing with the good, the bad, and all things rock music was a fun concept, so gaming was the perfect place to translate those vibes. Unfortunately, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy was revealed to a bland crowd of gamers who weren't interested in another origin story for the Guardians of the Galaxy, or a Marvel game released by Square Enix after their Avengers game. Those who actually played Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy he had nothing but positive things to say about the experience; word of mouth did not seem to translate into player numbers. Negative income from Marvel's Avengersand the oversaturation of Guardians of the Galaxy in general led to players simply not caring for the game, which is a real shame because it's a great experience and a space adventure that doesn't hold back from being wild, free and fun.

Border was unveiled in 2007 as a gritty and serialized co-op FPS game that won't compete Call of Dutybut instead create your own world that thrives on PvE action. With a sci-fi premise and a very serious atmosphere, Border it didn't seem that interesting to many players, simply because it looked visually uninteresting compared to what was already on the market. Analysts and players alike assumed Border failed, and even Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford said that “Take-Two is just sending it to die”but how wrong they could be! Border celebrating the release Borderlands 4 to critical and fan acclaim, showing that risk can go a long way. Border essentially created its own sub-genre of heist shooters, and players loved running around the wild, quirky, and dangerous wastelands of Pandora to collect loot, complete missions, and paint the town red. The combination of RPG and FPS elements in the open world was exceptional and the change in art style to a bold graphic novel with strong black outlines and unique colors really set the game apart from the FPS competition.

Death Stranding is odd because even now audiences seem to be pretty divided on what Hideo Kojima's intentions are Death Stranding was. The game itself was never shy about what it wanted to be and what it wanted to create, but there was some negative reception from those who expected more from the creator. Metal Gear Solid. No one could deny that the story looked completely wild and untethered from Kojima, but it also seemed to lack a core gameplay loop that would make it look fun with the familiar action espionage. Much of the game shown was interesting from a technical standpoint, but package delivery and walkthroughs were a problem for many until the game was in players' hands. The satisfaction of the game loop, the satisfying weapons, the terrifying encounters with BT, all intertwine with the characters and their stories to create an exceptional gaming experience, but some are still not in the world. Death Stranding train.

It's wild to think of a world where FromSoftware and the “Soulslike” genre aren't on top of the world, and thankfully we don't have to live there. Soul of Demons was the first entry into this relentless and brutal saga of fantasy, violence and resilience, placing players in a Metroidvania-like design with RPG elements. For now, everyone can look back on it Soul of Demons as a blueprint for games Dark souls, Bloodyand Elden Ringit wasn't always like that. In fact, Sony published Soul of Demons before Bandai Namco and were so unimpressed by its difficulty and playtests that they had no interest in localizing it for a western release. Soul of Demons it just seemed too difficult to play, and the mechanics, controls, and battles seemed confusing, frustrating, and in the words of former SIE president Shuhei Yoshida, “crap“. Fortunately Soul of Demons it found its audience in gamers who liked a good challenge, and challenge is what they got.

The Fallout series was an amazing set of CRPGs from the late 90s, where the world they created and its turn-based mechanics created a stellar and unique experience filled with a unique story for each player. Fast forward 10 years and Fallout is getting a new game (finally) in the form of Fallout 3. With a completely new development team at the helm and a complete overhaul FalloutSome die-hard fans of the originals weren't too happy to see their baby changed for a new audience on the new console systems. Fallout fan sites weren't thrilled with the changes coming to their popular series, and neither was the development team. The toxicity was anonymous and rampant and even led to Bethesda hiring security for their office. Fortunately, these loud voices were in the minority, stifled upon release Fallout 3 it ended in joy for millions. Continuing the world building of the originals, Fallout 3 it may not have had the depth and paths of the past, but the gameplay and its stories paved the way for more Fallout games and even hit series on Amazon Prime.

The Legend of Zelda is one of the most popular series of all time, and for good reason. An incredible classic that still holds up, like Ocarina of Time and The Major's Maskthey are the core of Nintendo's DNA. Still, Nintendo isn't one to stick to a unique formula, which is why the reveal The Wind Waker started a brutal storm online. at that time The Wind Waker it received a lot of negative attention and backlash, simply because the art style looked like it was tailor-made for children. The cartoony art style and cel-shading of her characters seemed simplistic and wasn't the tone fans of the series wanted. The fans eventually showed up and what they got was an unforgettable title worthy The Legend of Zelda name, with a beautiful art style worthy of its own tapestry in Nintendo history.
