Coming God of War Prime Video's TV series has its own Kratos, as Amazon MGM and Sony Pictures announced that actor Ryan Hurst has been chosen to portray the Ghost of Sparta. Known for his roles in shows like Sons of AnarchyHurst is not new God of War franchise in which he previously appeared God of War Ragnarok like Thor's voice.
The God of War The TV show is a joint production of Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. Despite the original announcement in 2022 God of War he saw some bumps in the road. The project restarted development in 2024 after several key staff left the show. Amazon and Sony then brought on Ronald D. Moore as executive showrunner. Moore later stated that he was working on it God of War scripts with Sony Santa Monica studio, incl God of War series creative director Cory Barlog. Barlog is credited as executive producer God of War TV show alongside PlayStation CEO Hermen Hulst. As of this writing God of War Filming is scheduled to begin in March 2026 in Vancouver.

God of War TV Series Reveals Who Plays Ghost of Sparta
Two months before the main shoot God of War Amazon MGM and Sony Pictures have shared who will step into the role of Kratos in the upcoming show. On January 14, the studio confirmed that actor Ryan Hurst would play the lead role God of War. Hurst's previous acting credits include playing Harry “Opie” Winston in the fan-favorite crime drama. Sons of Anarchy and high school football athlete Gerry Bertier in Disney's 2000 biographical sports film Think of the Titans.
However, Hurst's name may be familiar God of War fans. Hurst previously voiced Thor, the gigantic Norse god of thunder, in God of War Ragnarok. Hurst's performance as Thor was positively received and he was nominated for the 2023 BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor. The BAFTA award was won by another God of War Ragnarok voice actor, Laya DeLeon Hayes, who played Angrboda. Hurst joins actors Terrence C. Carson and Christopher Judge as Kratos.
Coming God of War TV the series will focus on the popular Norse saga with the events of 2018 God of War a game shown as part of the plot of the show. Kratos and Atreus have been confirmed to appear in it God of War show with other characters like Baldur and Freya likely to follow. Throughout the story, Kratos and Atreus will learn from each other, with their father-son relationship being a prominent plot point that will test them. Despite the revelation of Hurst as the Spirit of Sparta, God of War has yet to announce some standout roles. Important characters from God of WarThe Norse saga, such as Atreus, Freya and Odin, has yet to confirm any casting announcements from Amazon or Sony as of this writing.
Other God of War roles may be confirmed soon
Although God of War has revealed its lead, other roles may yet be revealed before filming begins. Past leaks and rumors regarding God of War The TV series hinted that Baldur, the antagonist of 2018 God of Warcould play Max Parker. Parker's acting resume includes appearances in Boots and Doctor Who. Other rumors claimed that Olafur Darri Olafsson, who appeared in the show as Severance pay. Of course, barring any official word from Amazon or Sony, rumors of God of WarUnannounced roles should be taken with a grain of salt.
While God of War A Prime Video series is about to enter its production phase, the game series that inspired it went dormant after launch God of War Ragnarok'with release Valhalla DLC in 2023. With rumors of the direction that God of War the franchise could follow the events Ragnaroktime will tell when Ghost of Sparta returns to PlayStation consoles.
