An RPG with better character customization than Cyberpunk 2077

Who doesn't love a good character creator and tons of customization options in their RPGs? It's practically a requirement for the genre to have as many cool hairstyles, flashy tattoos, and perks and traits as possible to define what character you'll be when you enter the world. One of the best examples of recent years is Cyberpunk 2077which goes pretty deep into its creator, including some NSFW stuff and even the length and color of your manicure. That said, it's not the deepest or greatest character builder, believe it or not.

I chose the following games for more options, sliders, and detail in character customization than Cyberpunk 2077. Some of them just have a little more variety, while others also have cool features like properties and sliders that add a little more flavor to the game. Obviously it's impossible to say Cyberpunk 2077 the character creation is badit's just that there are more extensive systems that allow you to create a virtual world or something like that.

Star field

Bethesda's Character Creation System, perfect

Regardless of what you think of the overall gameplay Star fieldI think we can all agree that the character creation was not one of the weak points in this game. Formerly, Fallout 4 it had one of the best and most comprehensive creation tools in my opinion. Graphically it was ahead Skyrimwhich already had some pretty nice options.

Star field it combines everything from Bethesda's previous creators into one, resulting in a very sophisticated system with lots of sliders to allow you to be as precise as possible when designing your character's face. Not only that, but trait selection was also a fun feature when you didn't have access to racing bonuses like v Skyrim. Some of them give you some additional gameplay options, others are just flavor, but overall I felt like they had a much bigger impact on the straight gameplay than Cyberpunk 2077 life paths.

Dragon Age: Inquisition

Although Dragon Age: Inquisition is a bit more limited than some of the other items on this list, I'd say it's still at the top Cyberpunk for the simple fact that with the amount of sliders you actually have a bit more freedom in how you shape your character's face. There are a lot more moving parts, and with the ability to choose details like inner and outer iris colors, you can get pretty deep and nitpicky.

It's true that you don't have as many wild options as you would in the game Cyberpunkbut it is without a doubt one of the deepest fantasy RPG character creators, except perhaps Dragon's Dogma 2 and Elden Ring (but we'll get to those later), in my opinion, the dressing too Baldur's Gate 3which locks you into preset faces. One thing to note is that you have some restrictions on your race, so choose carefully.

Elden Ring

From stats to appearance, everything is detailed

Elden Ring is another character customization system that absolutely blew me away with how deep you can go. Everyone remembers seeing the hideous looking creations that people made when the game first came out. It has an amazing range of sliders and cosmetic options like hairstyles, scars, blemishes and more. Honestly, it's a shame that your face will likely be covered by a helmet or hood for most of your run.

You also have the entire color palette at your fingertips and can pretty much create some of the wildest known creatures imaginable that are still humanoid. The starting classes, or rather the starting stat options are also pretty broad and you have a lot of flexibility in how you end up building and customizing your character once the game starts and you get access to better gear, Ashes of War, summons and all that jazz.

Nioh 2

Nioh 2 he doesn't skimp on his character creator either. It's an action RPG and Soulslike that lets you go surprisingly deep into your character's appearance with tons of detailed sliders for your face. There's also posture, pitch, height and color wheels to really spice up your character's eyes and hair, and speaking of hairstyles, lots of really beautiful options.

WITH Nioh 3 in the horizon of 2026, I hope that the quality and depth of character creation will remain the same, and you can make your character as terrible or beautiful as you like before sending him to die again and again against the game's difficult bosses.

Black Desert Online

One of the deepest character creation systems in any game

Jump into the MMORPG side of the RPG, there it is Black Desert Onlinewhich is largely known for its incredibly deep and visually stunning character customization options. It has a special aesthetic that you can also find in games like it The lost ark and Where the winds meetwhere the characters are very airbrushed and doll-like, but can be edited to death with massive slider options, makeup, hairstyles, colors and everything in between.

Without citing specific sources, Black Desert Online may have the most sliders available in any face-only game, with the possible exception of pro The Sims 4 or inZOIwhich is impressive for an MMORPG. The only limitation you'll run into is your class selection, as classes are gender locked and some classes have specific customization options locked behind them, but overall it's as good as creative freedom can get, and it just looks beautiful.

Code vein

So just like Nioh 2, Code vein is also getting a new game in the form of early 2026 Code vein 2and we have to hope they include the insanely awesome character creator from the first game. This game, with its artistic style, which is directly reflected in the creation of the character, strives for full maximalism. You don't just choose a hairstyle and eye color, but no, you go so far as to dress your character in the coolest streetwear outfits possible. You accessorize them, edit them, add some face paint and makeup, and it's almost a mini-game of its own. It's definitely a big hurdle you'll likely have to overcome if you want to play the game.

Now you're a bit more limited in terms of your face shape, but that's not really a problem given how you can edit different parts of your character's hair and adjust their accessories and makeup. That's a huge difference even if you're forced to choose a preset. An outfit is made up of different parts, so mixing and matching is a big deal here and will help you create exactly the type of main character you've been dreaming of. For anyone who adores the polished anime look, character creation in this game is worth its weight in gold.

Dragon's Dogma 2

A game about absolute freedom in shaping faces and bodies

Well, if there is one game that is the best Inquisition the depth of cosmetic adjustments in the fantasy RPG realm, that would be Dragon's Dogma 2. The creator reminds me a bit of the quality and detail we see in it too Nioh 2 and Elden Ringbut, and this might just be my thing, i feel like the characters in Dragon's Dogma 2 they look a little less mysterious than they do Elden Ringfor example. Of course, this has its drawbacks for some creators.

It's amazing how much you can customize your character's appearance in this game, and all the options look incredibly good and polished. One of the things I really appreciate about this system is the fact that it separates the lower body and the upper body, which means you can create more varied, unbalanced bodies that are a bit more realistic and unique. Every aspect of your character is adjusted with a slider, which is always good news because it gives you a lot more freedom than just picking from a list of presets. There are tons of great hairstyles, beards, tattoos, scars and more to choose from to give your character the right vibe. Honestly, if you're just into creating characters, this game might be worth it to its creator alone, though the general gameplay leaves it in comparison to titles like Elden Ring.
