Caloundra State High School locked down after student sent to hospital

A student has been rushed to hospital and another arrested after an altercation at a school north of Brisbane, with parents voicing their outrage over social media.

Caloundra State High School, on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, was thrown into lockdown at 10am on Tuesday after an altercation between two students.

It is understood the altercation involved a knife.

A male student in his teens was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital after suffering an injury to his hip, a Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said.

His injuries are not life threatening and were described as “superficial”.

Another student was taken into custody, Queensland Police confirmed.

Parents have taken to social media to complain after finding out about the incident from news publications.

“As a parent of that school we have had no info at all and when I called them they said we will get an EMAIL later today from the principal,” one wrote on social media.

“Scary when your kids go there and no communication from school,” another wrote.

“Would be nice if the school could send out a message, instead of reading this on Facebook,” a third said.

The school is no longer in lockdown and classes have resumed.

Police are investigating the incident.

More to come.
