A video has captured the moment a FedEx jet crash landed at an airport in the US, “skidding off the end of the runway”.
The local fire department in Chattanooga, Tennessee said emergency services rushed to Chattanooga Airport after a call saying the aircraft had a “landing gear failure” about 11pm on Wednesday, local time.
The cargo plane had taken off from Chattanooga to fly to Memphis when it unexpectedly returned.
Fireys, police and paramedics waited at the airport for the landing.
“The aircraft circled before making its final descent with three people on board,” Chattanooga Fire Department said.
“The plane crash landed, skidding off the end of the runway. It came to a rest between the runway and Jubilee Drive in the safety area.”
The department said there was smoke coming from the engines but no fire, and fortunately no injuries.
Local media reported all three people on board were pilots.
Sharing a video of the dramatic landing on social media, Hamilton County Emergency Medical Services commended the crew for “pulling off an emergency landing” and “avoiding what could have been a worse disaster”.
The National Transportation Safety Board confirmed it was investigating.
FedEx communications advisor Shannon Davis told Chattanooga’s Local 3 News: “FedEx Express Flight 1376 from Chattanooga to Memphis experienced an issue just after takeoff on Wednesday evening.
“Our crew is safe and any additional questions should be referred to the NTSB.”
