Larian has since confirmed that the game has officially launched on the platform, with fans able to start their journeys immediately. This comes just moments after Baldur’s Gate 3 won Game of the Year, rounding of its successful launch year.

This will only give us the digital version of the game, something both Series X and S users can enjoy. But for those of you with the more powerful console wanting to pick up a proper copy, you’ll have to wait until the new year, as physical copies are set to ship out on all platforms in early 2024.

It’s been a long wait for Baldur’s Gate 3 to make its way to Xbox. At first, it seemed like it might skip the platform altogether, even after Larian confirmed that Sony didn’t have a console exclusivity deal. Instead, it was held back by issues with the Xbox Series S, as the less powerful model struggled to run local multiplayer. Microsoft eventually agreed to drop this requirement, so now, couch co-op is only be available to Series X players.

Other than that, all the features should remain the same. Of course, the Series S release will probably have a lower-quality performance on the whole, although that’s to be expected. How much of a compromise this will be remains to be seen, but given how later parts of the game struggled to run on more powerful hardware, it’s likely that some changes have been made to large areas like Baldur’s Gate itself.

Xbox players will have the added benefit of having Patch 5 included in the game download though, meaning their first playthroughs will have the epilogue and the less murder-y path to get Minthara as a companion. While it’s been great playing Baldur’s Gate for these past few months on PC and PlayStation, I’m sure many of us wish we could have had these add-ons the first time around.

Patch 5 rounded everything off quite nicely, and now that Baldur’s Gate 3 has hit all of its intended platforms, the release of new features may slow down in the new year. That said, the epilogue was incredibly sequel-bait-y, so it’s not the last we’ve heard from our companions, I’m sure.
