Updated December 16th, 2023 by Andrew Scariati: Forming the perfect party begins with first understanding Like A Dragon’s best jobs. Once you’ve identified the best jobs in Yakuza Like A Dragon, the fun part is deciding where your party members fit into each profession. Spend some time testing out your favorite combinations with this guide to find the best party in Like A Dragon for you.

How To Form Your Party

Editing Your Party

Firstly, to edit your party, enter the menu and navigate to the “Party” option to pull up the edit screen.

From here, you’ll have a full visual overview of your current party members and can check a full list of their stats and available Job Skills.

Understanding Yakuza Like A Dragon’s best jobs is simple once you familiarize yourself with your allies’ strengths and weaknesses.

You’ll notice two numbers next to your character: on the left is your Job Rank, right below the job’s symbol, while your overall level is on the right side, near your MP and HP.

How To Train Your Party

Each party member is a valuable part of your team and should be properly leveled up to ensure they know all the right skills. Use the Sotenbori Battle Arena to gain levels at your own pace by challenging each set of five floors.

Change your party members’ jobs to learn a variety of elemental skills.

Male characters can learn elemental skills from the Host (Ice), Foreman (Fire), and Fortuneteller (Electric) jobs.

Female characters can learn elemental skills from the Hostess (Ice) and Nightqueen (Fire) jobs.

Every job has two skills that can be used once unlocked, regardless of your current job.

Check the Job Skills and find these marked by a red bubble.

You must reach the required job level to unlock the skill.

Leveling up your party members to give them access to the most skills is the best way to improve their power.

In addition, leveling up other jobs will give you permanent stat boosts, so there’s more to it than just earning a couple of skills.

Who Are The Best Party Members?

Ichiban, Joon-Gi Han, Saeko, Nanba, Adachi, and Zhao prepare to fight in Yakuza: Like A Dragon.

Your party is constantly expanding in Like A Dragon, so you may not have access to every party member if you have not completed the game.

The final party member will be Zhao, so know that once you unlock him in Chapter 11, you’ll have your full roster.

Eri Kamataki is a secret party member that can be unlocked by playing the Ichiban Confections minigame, located in the west of Isezaki Ijincho, north of Hamako’s bar.

Once you’ve assembled your full party, get to know these characters in particular, as they’ll be quite helpful.

Best Stats To Focus On

Idol

Lovedrunk Typhoon

Healing or Agility

Saeko is your resident healer and can even debuff your foes to boot. Her Lovedrunk Typhoon reduces the defense of all enemies and has a chance to Charm them.

Her turns should focus on healing the party before anything else. Her attacks can pack a surprising punch, especially her Hostess skill, Ice Spreader.

Tianyou Zhao

Gangster

Essence of Ladder Acrobatics

Magic or Agility

Zhao is arguably the hardest-hitting character in the game, competing with Joon-gi Han for that title.

Unfortunately, he is very frail, but his attacks are exceptionally powerful, especially his Essence of Ladder Acrobatics which targets all foes and may knock out the last enemy hit.

He learns Fire skills naturally but benefits greatly from Fulminating Forecast (Electric skill, Fortuneteller).

Joon-gi Han

Hitman

Agility or Dexterity

Agility will allow Joon-Gi Han to perform actions more often, while Dexterity will help him to be more accurate with attacks while also evading them more often.

Joon-gi Han and Zhao are somewhat similar in their glass cannon roles, but Joon-gi Han offers access to Bullet and Blade skills.

He also benefits from learning all elemental skills due to his high Magic stat. His variety of powerful attacks and self-buffs make Joon-gi Han a must-use party member.

What Is The Best Party Composition?

The best party composition in Yakuza: Like A Dragon will be entirely dictated by what activities you’ll be using them for. However, Ichiban should always have the Hero job, as it is simply that much better than the alternatives.

Some party members are excellent choices when farming levels early on or fighting quick battles, while others excel in slower, longer fights.

Healer

This party is excellent in the first half of the game but requires you to go out of your way to acquire Eri. However, this won’t take long as the minigame is fairly straightforward.

  • Eri will focus on physical attacks with her Darts Airstrike (Dealer) or Thumbtack Scatter (Clerk). She has access to skills that hit one target or all of them; use her to clear out stronger enemies.
  • Nanba will be the mage of the party and can clear out large groups with his Essence of Pyro Prison, or focus on area attacks with his breath skills.
  • Saeko takes up her role as an Idol to heal you and hinder your foes. She is such an important character, it’s worth leaving her in your party permanently sheerly due to her flexibility and healing.

This party is all about offense and nothing else. It’s best to use them when you’re over-leveled and revisiting the Yokohama Underground Dungeon, or someplace else to farm experience.

  • Nanba will handle area-of-effect (AoE) skills to deal with larger groups of enemies, thinning the crowd and weakening any survivors.
  • Joon-gi Han and Zhao are here to mop the floor with anyone who survives Nanba’s attacks.
    • Joon-gi Han will usually go first due to his high base Dexterity stat, so you can choose to make him focus on one enemy or attack everyone to make the cleanup job easier for your team.

Simply put, this is the best overall party in Yakuza: Like A Dragon, with access to immense power, healing, status inflictions, and more.

Once you put in the time to level up each member to learn all elemental skills, this will set the groundwork for making the most overpowered party in the game.

An ideal fight will look something like this:

  1. Turn one: Joon-gi Han uses an elemental attack like a Fulminating Forecast to weaken the crowd.
  2. Turn two: Zhao uses Essence of Ladder Acrobatics to further decimate the foes’ HP.
  3. Turn three (if needed): Saeko uses Lovedrunk Typhoon or heals the party if you were hit.
  4. Turn four: Ichiban finishes the stragglers.

Even against the ultimate challenge, the True Final Millenium Tower, most battles will transpire exactly like this, though there will be exceptions to account for randomness (RNG).

In those cases, rely on keeping your party alive, as Saeko excels at keeping your party healthy, so the heavy hitters can take control of any encounter.
