A fan-favourite fried chicken item has returned to stores more than three years after it was last on the menu.

KFC’s Hot Rods, which features hot and spicy chicken on a stick with dipping sauce, was first put on menu in Australia in 2007. The limited edition item has had a recurring place ever since.

Hot Rods made its most recent appearance back on the KFC menu in 2021 — but from April 16 the iconic snack is back.

KFC has heard the pleas from customers for Hot Rods to return, including Instagram messages such as “It’s time. Bring it back,” and, “Bring back the hot rods!”.

“After a wildly successful return in 2021, we’re thrilled to bring back Aussie favourite KFC’s Hot Rods,” Tami Cunningham, the chief marketing officer at KFC, said.

“Back by popular demand, fans loved this fresh take on our iconic flavours, so we’re excited for lovers of food on a stick and spice alike to be able to satisfy their cravings once more. “Get in quick though, because these skewered treats are here for a good time, not a long time!”

The Hot Rods can be purchased as a two-piece snack with a side of aioli for $4.95 or as a combo for $8.95. which features two Hot Rods, aioli sauce, chips and a drink.

Customers can also purchase a Fill Up pack for $4.95, which features a Hot Rod, an Original Tender, chips, aioli, potato and gravy and a dinner roll.

These can be purchased in store or via the KFC app and will be available countrywide except for South Australia — as they will be getting their own surprise on menus instead.

However, fans of the crunchy treat will have to get in quick as the Hot Rods will leave menus once again on May 13.
