How To Install Texture Packs In Minecraft

Through the years, Minecraft he stayed true to his textures. New updates may provide some texture changes, but for the most part, Minecraft keeps its classic and iconic look. You may sometimes want new textures; luckily there are tons of texture packs available online. As long as Minecraft has been around, people have been creating new mods and texture packs.

In this guide we will cover downloading and using a texture pack. You do not need to download additional programs. In general, make sure you have enough space on your computer. Many texture packs take up a lot of space, and you definitely don’t want to run out of space on your computer. Please note that this guide is intended for those playing the Java version of Minecraft.

Create a folder for the selected texture pack

Before downloading the texture pack, you will need to create a folder to download the package. In this guide we will be working with the Overflow texture pack, so our folder will be called ‘MC Overflow Texture Pack’.

Download any texture pack of your choice and name the folder whatever you want. Later, we’ll go over some recommended texture packs that you can download.

Once your folder is ready, it’s time to download the texture pack. they exist more websites which allow you to download texture packs, with Planet Minecraft to be one of the most popular. Here you can find many texture packs and reviews for each one.

If you are trying to find the right texture pack for you, don’t forget to read the reviews and look at the ratings, as not all texture packs are created equal!

Once you find a texture pack you like, download and save in the newly created folder.

You should have a folder with the zipped version of the package in it. Right-click on the .zip and select “Extract Here.” This will unzip the file and add additional items to the folder. Once the file is fully extracted, you can delete the original .zip file.

You should now have your own folder with several files that make up the texture pack, as in the image above. Now copy the entire folder. If you saved the folder to your desktop, simply right-click and press “Copy”.

It’s time to open Minecraft now! You can do this step in-game or in the main menu.

In the settings menu select ‘Options’. This will direct you to another screen with eight options. You will be here select “Resource Packs”.

The resource pack panel will have two columns with a button at the bottom that says ‘Open package folder.’ Clicking this button will open a new file explorer window. Paste the folder you copied earlier here.

As soon as you paste the foldera texture pack will be available for selection.

Once the folder is pasted, you can exit file explorer the window. Now you should check out your new texture pack in the left column.

You can see in the image above that it is a texture pack Red. this means it is not fully compatible with the Minecraft version on which you are currently playing. That’s okay! A texture pack may not include certain items, but in general, you should still be comfortable using it.

When you hover over a texture pack, you’ll see an arrow pointing to the right. Clicking this arrow will bring up a texture pack on the right where the packages are selected. Above you can see the texture pack already selected. If that’s the case, you’ll want to move all texture packs that are currently in use in the “Available” column to cancel them.

The the default option will always be in the selected sectionso you can just leave it as it is. Make sure your downloaded texture pack stays above the default option.

With a new texture pack at the top of the “Selected” column press “Done!” Minecraft will reload and the new texture pack will be applied.

That’s all there is to know about installing the texture pack. It can be a bit difficult at first, especially if you are not used to loading different packs or mods. As with downloading anything from the Internet, Be careful!

Do as much research as possible before downloading a package; downloading anything from the internet can be risky. Remember to download the texture pack only if you like downloading these files. Minecraft is still fun even if you play with the default textures.
