Roosters’ sly move for Newcastle rising star in NRL poaching raid

The Roosters are said to be trying to sign rising Knights star David Armstrong, but the Newcastle powerhouses are keen to retain his services.

That’s according to The Daily Telegraph , who report that Armstrong’s recent form signing for superstar Kalyn Pong has attracted the attention of several clubs.

Armstrong, 23, has received an offer to stay at Hunter from the Knights, with the club reportedly confident of keeping hold of the talented full-back.

He is out of contract for the 2025 season, and there have been difficulties in negotiating his contract due to the many agents acting on his behalf.

However, the issue is now said to be resolved and Armstrong is expected to make a decision on his long-term future.

If he stays at Newcastle, he will have to sit behind Pongo in the full-back pecking order, with current medalist Dally M absent due to an injury to Lisfranc.

Meanwhile, his path to jersey no. 1 also blocked at the Roosters in 2025 as James Tedesco has a year left on his current deal.

THE MAN WAYNE WANTS TO BRING SOUTH

Dolphins coach Wayne Bennett is reportedly looking to lure one of his star players to Sydney next season.

Souths and Euan Aitken are said to be in contract talks for next season, meaning the in-form back-rower could follow Bennett, who will rejoin the Rabbitohs on a three-year deal.

According to reports The Daily TelegraphThe Dolphins are not yet ready to offer Aitken an extension beyond one year.

However, the versatile forward is looking for a little more security and is hoping for a multi-year deal with Souths, who are said to be entertaining the idea.

Bennett said he won’t take any players the Dolphins want to keep.

“That’s not going to happen. I didn’t build this club to try to destroy it,” said the legendary coach.

“If there’s a guy who doesn’t get offered a contract or wants to go somewhere else and I think he can play a bit, then that will be a different thing.”
